Hi everyone! I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster.
I am a recent graduate from undergrad and need some advice.

I finished my Bachelor's of science in math with:

3.15 overall gpa (120 credits)
3.05 BCP (34 credits)
3.10 sGPA (includes math > 80 credits)

My BCP gpa includes only the prerequisites (Organismal form and function (A-); Cell bio (B-); gchem I,II (A,A); ochem I,II(C+, C); phys I,II (B,B))

I am URM, worked 2 jobs (30 hrs give or take a few) consistently throughout undergrad

I have not taken the the DAT yet but plan to spend the next 6 weeks studying.

I originally wanted to enter into a master's program in biomedical science but have more recently been under the impression that an informal post-bacc would be a better idea.

My main concern is whether or not I should submit my application this summer or wait until next cycle
but I am also wondering if I should rush my DAT and go ahead and apply for 1 yr masters (deadlines june 1) or spend the time I need to study and do well on the DAT the first time around. I registered to take it a week from today, but have not at all been able to prepare due to personal reasons.

Any advice that you could offer would be greatly appreciated! 😀

Hello! This is just my opinion.... but finish the rest of your prereqs and ACE them all. And do well on your DAT and you should be fine. Don't let that sGPA sink below 3.0. And get some shadowing in if you have not done so. If you know you will do well on you DAT, then by all means apply, especially if the high fees is not a worry 🙂 Again, just my opinion.

Apply now. Best case scenario you get in. Worst case scenario is you do your plan B anyway but have the experience of applying during next cycle.

whats your financial situation like? Can you afford to apply and get rejected and apply again next year (or year after)?

This is a very expensive process, I advice you to consider this because your money could be better spent fixing your stats (post-bacc or masters).

take some more science classes if you can after you apply or during the summer. take the DAT by mid-July and i think you will be fine.

best of luck to you

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Financially, it may be difficult for me to come up with the money to reapply if I don't get in this time around, but I have a pretty good track record of working things like that out so if I have even a small chance of making the cut this time I would definitely prefer to try.

I do have another problem that I need some input on. I am scheduled to take the DAT this coming Tuesday, but a very close family member who is like a second mom to me had cancer and passed away this past Friday, so besides the fact that I had already decided to reschedule and am not prepared, there is no way that I can sit for this test on Tues. As everyone else probably realizes prometric is closed until tomorrow and my rescheduling grace period is over. Do you guys think there is anything I can do? I am worried that if I don't take the exam then I will have to wait 90 days.

Thanks

Sorry for posting before doing my own research. I kind of panicked...apparently a no-show/late cancellation doesn't count as an attempt and I just lose out on the money?
