Hi, I just finished my internship in Australia. I have always wanted to work as anaesthetist but I cannot match any trainee position. I ended up with a job in emergency medicine. I feel so disappointed and I can't help wondering whether it's my problem because most of my classmates got an offer from anaesthesia. What shall I do???????

Take the USMLE while studying EM in Oz. Than come to US for anesthesia residency in a few years. Maybe you'll stay.

I'm with Il, don't give up. You'll get there if you want it. In the meantime you will be doing a lot of good and learning valuable things you'll bring to the next stage.

Hang in there. It's a journey.

+1.

Take your time, focus, and try to make the most out of what you're currently doing.
There's a lot that can be learned and enjoyed on the path you're currently taking. Focus on that, and in the meantime keep looking into options for coming to the US (exams, possibly even away rotations in large cities where you can visit several programs and get some face time: LA, San Francisco, Washington, Dallas. . . these are all reachable from Oz without too much hassle).
