Advice Needed/Intro

Your GPA is not technically competitive, but there are plenty who have been admitted with a GPA at or below 3.3, as you can see in the posted stats link. Research certainly looks good on an application, but what is also necessary is how much animal/veterinary experience you have acquired by the time you apply. Because of your late start you may have trouble getting a competitive amount of experience (I've heard this is ~1000 hours or so). My cumulative GPA will be around 3.3 by the time I apply, so my plan is to boost this with a high GRE score and as much animal/vet experience as I can squeeze in between now and October. If you have a lot of research experience and aren't really planning on going into veterinary research, though, I'm not sure just how much that will help you out. My advice would be to rack up the experience hours as much as you can. Good luck!

I think your research experience will definitely help you, but gaining a lot of veterinary experience should be your number one priority now. In addition to the reasons mentioned by Bee83, I think you should get as much veterinary experience as you can before applying so that you do not waste your money applying if you realize your heart isn't in veterinary medicine either. My advice is to avoid becoming "dead set" on a career path before you gain enough experience in the field. And don't worry that you are a senior - it is never to late to work towards a new career, and you have more of an advantage than most in that you haven't left undergrad yet! Good luck :luck:
