Hello Everyone,

I could really use some advice as my school curriculm office has not had a lot of advice for me.

Good news: I got engaged.
Bad news: no time for the wedding!

We have rotations until July 16th and then a colloquium until July 30th.

We wanted to have the wedding in July but the school wont let anyone miss a day of colloquium so I am scrambling to figure out stuff that is 11 months away.

My questions are:
1. My impression is that I need to start doing EM AI's August 1st...is this true? My school provides no EM rotation or training in 3rd year. I wanted to do two AIs in time to get the necessary SLOR for the allo match. Do I need to do this in august for 4 weeks and then another 4 weeks in sept. to make it all happen? The reason I want to do several EM AI's is to try and get my foot in the door at the two residencies I really like...
2. do any EM AIs start mid-month or do most start on the 1st of each month?
3. When do I take step 2? Put it off till my AIs are done? I got great board scores on USMLE and comlex and dont really want to take USMLE step 2 as it would be redundant in my mind.

right now my options are to a) try and get some time from my ob/gyn in early july to have a wed-sunday wedding or b) try and do an early aug.wedding if I really dont need to start doing AIs on aug 1st.

How do I figure out this EM SLOR/application/AI maze?

cheers

I'm doing my aways right now and everyone has said this is prime time for them. I have one more after this in September. I have a friend doing two September and October. Just speaking for me, I wanted to get mine out of the way in case the letter writers took a long time to get the letters submitted to our dean's office.

To answer the question about when the rotations start, mine start at the beginning of each month. A few of my friends have theirs starting earlier or later though and got that by contacting the programs to see their dates, then worked around them (these were for places in California and in Virginia).

I don't know the answer to the Step 2 question. I'm taking it in October but know a lot of people who have already taken it.

I hope that some of this helps.
