I studied for about 2 and a half weeks hard 7 hours a day and then had sort of a collapse once I learned of the financial burden of attending dental school. I started dental assisting for this new dentist for about 2 weeks after this collapse and completely put off studying because I thought it was necessary to get exposed to dentistry before I continued. I also started EMTing with my licence I never used and it proves to be a waste of time where I just sit in a room for 4 hours waiting for maybe 1-2 calls a day. anyways, I am ready to pick up the books again but was wondering if it would be illogical to dental assist twice a week for 4 hours while I studied? Should I quit my emt volunteer job or use that time while not getting calls to study?
Would EMT look good for dental school?

prior to dental assisting, I have no dental experience and I am thinking it would strengthen my application for this cycle. I also think it would also be a nice break to get out of the house and see people. (might have been a reason i collapsed)

or should I just be focusing die hard on DAT? (3.34cGPA, 3.15sGPA

thanks

Don't fixate on the debt. If you're a good dentist, you will do well and live a comfortable life.

Both volunteering and dental experience look good but dental experience matters more for admissions. Admissions officers want to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into.

And yes, the DAT is very important along with GPA.

I'm currently studying for the DAT and I study for around 6 hours a day. I will begin my junior year of college in August so I have nothing else to do. I normally study for around 2 hours at most in one session before taking a short break. I also hang out with friends, go to the gym, go fishing etc.. If you balance studying with other activities it isn't bad. I would keep volunteering and attaining dental experience while studying. The main thing is to stay focused. If you study for 6 hours in a day, you should be alert and actively learning. If you have the mindset that you don't want to be studying, you will not learn anything. I don't see how people study 1o-12 hours a day. I think that is way to stressful, unhealthy, and unproductive.
