Hi everyone!

My boyfriend is graduating in May with his Kinesiology degree and wants to begin applying to start PT school for the fall of 2017. He plans on working in his year off. His first year of college was rough, and though he worked his butt off the last few years, he will graduate with about a 3.2 GPA. I'm pre-dent so I don't know too much about the workings of applying to PT school but would it be beneficial for him to do a masters and have a rock solid GPA or to go ahead and apply now? He's shadowed at one physical therapy office, and has spent the semester interning at a pediatric physical therapy office. Thanks everyone!

Masters grades won't increase his prereq GPA. I would just focus on retaking prereqs he got Cs and Bs in. No advantage from having a masters.

Definitely don't do a masters if the plan is to apply to PT school. As was said above, solid GRE scores and pre-req GPA are what saves a bad cGPA. Make sure to get observation hours in a couple of inpatient settings (eg rehab, acute/ICU, LTAC or SNF)

There are lots and lots and lots and lots of threads on this forum about this question if you use the search feature.

+1 to DesertPT as usual.
What I would do: If he wants to apply for the next cycle: Forget masters: If his recent coursework is good enough (last 60hr gpa 3.8ish with a decent GRE), otherwise why not prolong graduation until the end of summer. He could easily take another 15-18hrs between may and summer and raise his cgpa/sgpa/pgpa. It really depends on what his last 60hrs gpa is coupled with his sgpa/pgpa/gre and school admin requirements. It does seem that correcting gpa is easier before graduation than after depending on the school.
