Hey guys,

so i just got all my results from this cycle, applied to 28 schools, 6 interviews, 4 waitlists, no accepts. I havent given up yet, but I'm getting ready to have afall out plan for next year in case i have to reapply. stats are as follows,

3.55/3.55 uchicago (graduated in 3 years)
38P MCAT
summer of lab research experience
spent my gap year doing 40 hours/week of clinical research
taught health at a local high school for a year

not gonna lie, kinda frustraited, expecially because my peers keep telling me to do a post bac, which in my opinion is a waste of time just cause I have my basic sciences down (38 mcat). what do y'all think, should I do a post bac. I honostly feel like retaking classes I did well in at a better school is stupid, and im inclined to think the adcom will also think its stupid. I also just dont wanna waste money to relearn something. Thoughts? Also any suggestions for acitvities I could persue next year? Also, I wrote kind of a stupid personal statement (I spoke about poker LOL). I'm obviously going to scrap that and start from scratch. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi!

First, I agree to not give up hope yet. It's not over 'til it's over!

Second, your MCAT is great and I think it could make up for your lower GPA (which is not that low). I think you hit the nail on the head with the personal statement thing. Don't underestimate the weight it carries in the process and in the event you are not accepted this cycle I would really focus on a "new and improved" PS. I also think you could supplement your ECs with more clinical experience (i.e. shadowing, volunteering...). I hope that helps. Good luck!!

I think you have nothing to worry about, and nothing is ever a waste of money if it helps you get to where you're going. Personally I had a 3.1 in undergrad, a 3.4 in my masters, a 25M MCAT and I applied early. 18 schools, 4 interviews, 2 acceptances +1 waitlist +1 canceled interview. I had crazy ECs though. I agree that your PS needs to be extremely strong, I spent the best part of 25-50 drafts on it between family, friends, and faculty. You're MCAT and GPA are more than exceptional. I would work on interview skills and the PS, and stay involved through volunteer or shadowing. Keep your head up, you'll get your shot.

When did you apply? The one thing that seems missing is volunteer/clinical experience (interacting with a patient population and volunteering your time). In my experience that is HUGE. Could you start volunteering at a hospital RIGHT NOW in case you do need to reapply?

Well, before you re-fill your AMCAS, try sending an update/letter of interest to those schools you're WL'd at and hope that the mid-May deadline for holding multiple spots bumps you over the threshold to an acceptance slot..

Good luck
