Hi y?all I was wondering if you guys could give me some input. I?m about to transfer next fall into a university as junior. I don?t come from the richest family in world and nor do I have the perfect grades. I?m wondering would it be smart to enroll in a dental hygiene program, and than along with work do my prerequisite work for dental school. If I do this, it will mean that I?ll have a dental hygiene degree but no BA/BS. Is there still a possibility that a dental school will take me in, considering I don?t get a BA? Would it be better to do a BA than to opt for the dental hygiene program?

Thanks a bunch.

If you had already completed a bachelor's degree, then maybe the hygiene route would give you some "extra" experience... in your situation, I would just stick to finishing your BA! If you go to most schools' Web sites, it says "preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher."

Beware that dental hygiene program is tough. It may bring down your GPA. I got 2 BS degrees and numerous advance biology classes, but is still suffering right now in dental hygiene program. The clinical classes are killing my GPA, darn.. they're so picky with every little mistake ie. holding my explorer in the wrong end. Make sure you talk to current hygiene students about their program.
