Hi everyone.

I am a business major (MBA - equivalent to an undergrad in the US) from Karachi Pakistan. After working for two yrs in major corporations I quit and did a course for teaching dyslexic kids. Since then I have developed a passion towards psychology.. and now applying to various grad schools hoping to get in a good psychoogy ph.D program..

my research experience other than the my business research projects incluse a volunteer work int he study of a certified psychologist and a ph.d student for identofying and analyzing emotional, learning and behavioral problems in children.

I have a GPA of 3.2 and appearing for my GRE and toefl next month.

I need advice in the following areas:

- which schools should i realistically be restricting myself to in applying as i dont have an extensive psychology research exp.
- should i go for a masters only or stick to my plan of applying to phd programs

thanks

Your GPA is on the low-side for a phd program. Most of the clinical phd programs are going to require at least a 3.5+ and require a lot of psychology course prerequisites. I would apply at master's programs and then go from there. If you do quite well in the master's program and build up your GPA you'll be a much more attractive candidate.

Honestly, you don't have enough to make yourself competitive for a PhD program; you should look at MS programs instead, and maybe after that you will have a better shot. Make sure to get solid research experience throughout your MS. It may take some work to find some, since many MS's don't concentrate on the research aspect.
