Hey everyone,

So here's my spiel, which may not be that different for some of the readers out here. I've wanted to do immunology/allergy/rheumatology ever since I was an undergrad, I did my research in it, got my masters in cell biology, worked at a top pharma company for a year doing immunology research for phase I trials, and now I'm in med school (just started my 3rd year not too long ago), and I'm actually really liking ophthalmology. We had a clinical session in one of our courses, and I just fell in love with it.

The problem: my school has a horrible reputation for ophthalmology. We don't have a residency program, and we haven't sent anyone into it for at least 4 years. I don't know what tier school it would be considered, but it's a state-school in the northeast. I got a 230 on my boards, and I have a 2-week ophthalmology rotation coming up in September.

For the summer between MSI and MSII, I went to Morocco and ran a huge smoking study, did a presentation and several more poster presentations on it because I thought I would be going into IM at the time. Now that I'm here, I'm at a loss as to what to do in order to show my interest in ophthalmology. There are no residents to work with since we don't have a program, and I think the last paper any of the ophthalmologists at the school published was with regards to compliance in contact-lens wearers, and that was several years ago. As of right now, my only idea would be to be very proactive with them and do some kind of chart-reviewing report that can get me published before application season starts next year. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! :xf:
