Hi guys, I've searched to see if this particular issue has been broached, and I haven't found anything. I apologize if I am wrong.
I need some advice. I am taking my DAT's in October. I would like to attend dental school in 2014. My problem is I attended a Naturopathic school of medicine a few years ago and I left after a year and a half (I wasn't happy with the course of study). My grades were miserable. My grades prior were pretty great, so no problem there.
I did have loans taken out for this school and that seems the only likely way to know I ever attended medical school.
I would like to omit any information pertaining to this school on my application.
My questions are:
1. Can I get away with omitting this last school from my records without being found out?
2. If you think a school can find out, how would they do that if it is the last school attended?
3. Any suggestions? I don't want to put off attending dental school another year.

Thanks!

It's pretty straightforward. You have the responsibility to submit every transcript.

Dental schools may or may not verify whether you left one out during the admissions process.

If you lie on your application, they rescind your admission when they find out. Assume this happens after you've accumulated six figure debt.

Best of luck to you.

Yes, but my question is very specific: Is there a way in verify if I attended the VERY LAST school?
Does financial aid, for instance, communicate with schools to confirm attendance at the last school enrolled?
I know not mentioning the very last school attended is the same as holding back information which some consider lying. I get that.
Let's leave out the morality and the ethics on this one topic.
It was a medical school I got into-by telling the entire truth. However, it was this school that I destroyed my gpa.

You must be kidding.

It doesn't matter what happened. Transcripts must be sent. Time unaccounted for will raise questions. There is a national database. It only takes one eagle eyed screener to tip off your application organization and you are cooked.

It is a naturopathic school of medicine. Isn't that like a naturopathic school of nothing? I'd probably leave it out just out of pure embarrassment.

You should probably check your information and ego before you come across as an *****. 🙂

Omitting a school attended on your app is probably the safest way to never become a doctor

More risky alternatives include drinking and driving into a cop or sleeping through all your final exams this semester

Yea. I know it's really a stupid idea. I was hoping there might be a loophole that I could find and jump through. Damn. Thanks.

Just own it. Then talk about how you realized that you wanted to do "real medicine" through it.

Agreed. OP, you probably should also own the damage you did to your GPA at this school. Talking about how "this school ruined my GPA" instead of how YOU ruined your GPA isn't likely to instill confidence in any admissions committee.

Academic Dishonesty is giving a false impression of your scholarly achievements while knowing the truth is contrary to the record you have provided. This includes leaving out pieces of key information that schools specifically request, such as every single transcript you earned.

1 year to show better grades, enrichment, etc. can seem like a long time. Whatever decision you make today will change your life for many more years, though.

As for letting the school know you attended the school but not having to send official transcripts:
I do not know if it is true to Dental School, but AMCAS allows students to file a transcript exception request. Even if you were applying to medical school though, an exception would not apply for naturopathic medical schools. In either case, I would not be surprised if any professional school individually asked you to send them the transcript anyway.

It is reasonable to want to protect yourself from blemishes on your application. As someone with a spotty record that is bounds and leaps more worrisome than yours, I understand your concern.
However, lying is a very bad idea!
1) You will be starting your career with a moral stain. It will hurt you personally and professionally. I am sure it is all common sense.
2) You will probably be discovered at some point and thrown out, so much worse than not being accepted the first time.

Sometimes people fail. Don't let it define you.

So you sat your ass there for a year and a half and you're wondering if you attended that school?

The only way I can think that you may be able to not have this affect you is if the school is not accredited AND the application process clearly states that transcripts of unaccredited institutions are not required. Otherwise, you will have to report.
