Hello everyone,

I'm currently in a tight spot that I initially didn't foresee. I traveled abroad to Australia the previous semester and struggled get much done with my application while I was gone and therefore have just started the process. I planned on sending my primary application at the end of August and take the DATs at the end of September. I was originally told that this would be perfectly fine by my adviser, but after reading some of the responses on the site, I have been having questioning my chances.

As far as my stats go, I have a 3.36 G.P.A. at Stonehill College, with a 3.26 science G.P.A. I received a 4.0 G.P.A. for the semester I was at the University of Queensland. I have 130 hours of clinical experience through a semi-formal internship and regular shadowing and I also have participated in Boston University's Project White Coat (a pre-dental and public health summer program) were I gained some experience in the dental school. I have two separate research experiences as well; one where I received academic credit and the current research I am carrying out now, which with be used to write a thesis. As for the DATs, I've been studying with a "do or die" mentality and hope to score an average of 22 overall.

I am also extremely involved on campus as well and have had a very well rounded experience. I'm a student ambassador, a teaching assistant for general chemistry, the co-creator and current president of the Pre-Dental society, active members of the Biology society, Habitat for Humanity, and Relay for Life, and participate in three intramural sports.

I am located in the Boston area and I planned on applying to Tufts, Boston University, New England University, and UConn. Any other schools to apply to that meet my credentials would be greatly appreciated as well! While I feel like I am a strong applicant, I am just worried that the spots will be few to none by the time I get a chance to send the application out. Would it be worth the chance or should I plan on a year off?

Any questions, feel free to shoot me a message or reply and thanks in advance!

This is an interesting predicament but just because you are that the end of your rope doesn't mean you are at the end of your hope. First thing you want to do is to check the deadlines of these schools and plan accordingly. Tufts's deadline is in Jan I believe so you have time..but the others I have not looked up. Of course the earlier the better but your stats aren't bad and if you knock out your DAT you have a great chance. It will be cutting it close..so make sure that you put those schools on your list to places you want your scores to go when you register for the DAT( if you already have then great!). Get your app done as soon as possible..took me a few hours to do...knock it out now . You don't need the scores for your apps to be sent...the more you delay the later they get it your app and the lower your chances for other schools. So I think you are on your way. TRY!!! and Good blessings!!

Is there any way you can have things for your application ready earlier? And would you be comfortable moving your DAT closer as well? It seems the general consensus is to have everything done, secondaries and DAT by September in order to get the oh-so-important pre-December interviews. Don't forget to factor in processing time for everything (GPA verification, mailing, DAT processing, etc.) because some of these things take a couple weeks as well.

Best of luck getting everything together!

Hey James, congrats on the study abroad. Hope it was fun! Just because you are at the end of your rope doesn't mean you are at the end of your hope. There is a good chance to get in this cycle but don't delay anymore...get on that app...tonight and send it in asap. You don't need to wait for you scores to send in your app. You have good stats so you can get in. The first thing you want to do is to check to see what the deadlines are and plan according. Tufts' deadline is in Jan I believe but the others I don't know. It can't hurt to apply!! Get on that app tonight and good blessings. You have a chance but if you wait...that chance diminishes.
