I am just a humble pre-dental hopeful, so any advice would be very appreciated!

A quick overview: After this semester I will have roughly a 3.4 overall and 3.15 science GPA. I expect 5 A's (all science) and 1 C or B- this semester in OChem. My workload has been hardest the last two semesters and ironically my GPA has been the most solid during that time as I've been more focused (3.75 and 3.6 respectively). My overall and science GPA would be higher had I figured out before my freshman year that I wanted to be a dentist and cared a bit more about school! Live and learn I guess. I plan on submitting my application as early as possible -- then taking the DAT a bit later -- probably early June.

If I were to go spring semester to help raise my GPA, would I be able to attach my spring transcript to my application after it has already been sent out, like how DAT scores can be sent in later? Also, what's the latest I would be able to take the DAT without having it be a problem?

Also, with a 3.4 overall and a 3.15 science -- what DAT score do you feel I would need to feel somewhat confident about getting accepted? Do I stand a solid chance with my stats or do I need to wait and apply next cycle when I can raise my GPA up a few notches? I have some EC -- not an incredible amount -- but some things here and there. (Volunteer, 50+ hours shadowing).

Any advice or ideas would be very much appreciate. Like I said, just looking to learn from all of your experiences. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Didn't mean to post this thread twice. Sorry.

You can erase your old thread, I'm not 100% sure though. and you really should. IMO you need a 21+.
GOOD LUCK

I'm not an expert in all of this either but I have learned some things by doing some research and contacting some schools. My understanding is that you can add on classes after filling out the app just as you can add DAT scores. You can also take the DAT anytime as long as the schools receive your scores by the deadline. Having said that, I have read some posts on here saying that it takes awhile for the schools to receive and process your scores so the earlier the better. As far as applying, your GPA is a bit below average (I feel like a hypocrite for saying that, mine is too) but I think you should apply anyway. What does it hurt to give it a shot? Plus, they have to admit some people below the average so why not you? Just get good DAT scores and work on the other parts of your app. (Easier said than done, I know)

@op

20-21 would be competitive. i am sure this is common sense, but the higher you score the higher your chances.

as for when to submit? as early as possible. just make sure you are ready when you take the dat. you dont really want to take it more than once.

i would say the latest to take the dat would be like july 1st. i known people to take it later and gotten into many schools. but since your gpa is a bit low, i would get everything asap.

make sure to keep on top of things.
