When I went to med school, I thought I wanted to do rads. I like the cerebral/ "pure diagnostics" aspect of the field. I later realized I'm not particularly dextrous under pressure. I am, in a word, clumsy. Are there jobs that don't require a lot of procedural work out there? Is this something you get better with over time? I know IR is out for me, but even diagnostic rads seems procedure heavy these days when looking at the job market.

Rads jobs that don't require any procedures would be telerads. The rest of the sections pretty much do minimally invasive procedures other than probably nucmed unless they require you to place the IV and inject the tracer. As with pretty much everything in life, you will get better over time and practice makes perfect...some faster than others.

I too used to be nervous about doing procedures, especially when I was a med student, but even throughout residency. Now an attending, I can tell you that a lot of the procedures (arthrograms, myelograms, US biopsies) in radiology are quite easy once you get the hang of it. After doing a bunch, they become second nature. I am also someone who considered myself clumsy and now only 3 years into PP, I am very confident and even enjoy doing many procedures. Don't let your perceived procedural inadequacies dissuade you from choosing rads.
