Can anyone offer advice on how to filter lectures for "high yield" information please?

Aside from study approaches, like visuals/explaining/interleaving, etc, I feel like an important topic that often goes overlooked in schools "office of learning" presentations is that students who are able to sense what's going to be tested seem to have a much easier time in med school. I'd like to get better at that Spidey sense. Some profs are very clear, but it seems like often you get these walls of disorganized information from some and it can be hard to gauge whether you're being too lax or too anal.

Any and all input appreciated!!
