search for some uc davis threads here on sdn...some of them were pretty good and we all wrote some good stuff there...

if you have a car...you can easily get around from davis to sac-town. not hard at all.

if you dont have a car well they have a shuttle that you can take there and you just need to be aware of the schedule of when it runs.

the davis interviews are really stressfree...but you should look over the feeback site here on sdn. they do have a standard pool of questions of which the interviewers will draw from and ask you. they will also ask you some of their own questions as well. its open file so be prepared to answer about anything on your app.

you can be asked the same questions by the faculty and the student...so dont think that is weird. they just could have picked out the same one to ask you. the student inteviewer is cool cause you get to walk around the whole medical center and talk and just get to know the medical center. its more a tour than an interview i thought, but they do ask you questions and send in comments about you and stuff.

you should be fine man.

I interviewed early Nov and the interview is pretty laid-back. There are two interviews (one with a faculty member at the campus in Davis and one w/ a 4th year student at the med center in Sac). The whole experience was great, stress level was a minimum. I interviewed with a PhD faculty member who had the same research interests as I did, so that was a plus. Expect ethics questions. I believe they just want you to formulate an answer and support it. Before the interview I heard that sometimes the shuttle form Davis to Sac runs late, so I decided not to risk the shuttle and I rented a car. I had about 1 hour to get to Sac after my interview in Davis (both interviews run about an hour) so the rental car thing was a good choice because I hit a little traffic on the way. Get a bunch of internet maps before you go. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice and comments. Good luck!!!! 🙂

BTW, where did you guys stay? Any advice or recommendations on nearby hotels/motels? 😕

damn thats what i call a warrior...

but student hosts are the best way to go imho. can aks the kids more about the school and anything else you have questions about. davis kids are coo.

Thanks for the advice everyone... I am off to interview at Davis tomorrow and am spending the day prepping for it. I am expecting the ethical questions among others.

Voltron, I will post tomorrow night how it goes so you can read that. I live in Davis right now and there are a couple of hotels right downtown. I think staying with a student would probably be the best bet so you can learn more about the school. I'm kinda bummed I cannot do that since I live here. You're welcome to crash on my futon if none of the other options work out, though I can't vouch for its comfiness. But we live right in downtown, fairly close to campus.

And I do recommend internet directions cuz the freeways here can be a bit confusing at first... 80, business 80, 50, all going into downtown and splitting off....

Anyway, back to work for me 🙂

Good luck azpremed.....do your best and enjoy the day!!!!!!

so the interview is done and i think it went pretty well 🙂

ucd was definitely a good place to have a first interview. it was pretty mellow overall. the day started with information about the school and a brief tour of the davis campus. then we were allowed to sit in on the last few minutes of a lecture before having lunch with current students. they were all super nice and helpful and had nothing but good stuff to say about the school and its clinical opportunities.

then it was off to sacramento for the interview. there were 6 of us there and about 1/2 of us only got one interview, not two. they did not have enough students to do the student interview, but they said it will not hurt us in admissions.

the interview was really mellow, really just a conversation. my interviewer went almost directly off their question list, so i was very well-prepared by having gotten familiar with the questions posted on interview feedback. i posted about my interview on that site too.

overall, it was a good day, though i am a bit bummed that i did notr get a tour of the sacramento facilities since i did not have a student interview and tour. davis definitely remains at the top of my list and i really hope i get in.

good luck voltron next week 🙂

thanks azpremed. i'll let you know how it goes next week. good luck!!!!

i also pm'ed you azpremed!!!! happy holidays! 🙂

Hi-
I'll be interviewing at Davis later this month, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a place to stay, and transpo to the school. I didn't get an email about student hosts, but I'd prefer staying at a nearby motel or hotel anyway (I seem to have a hard enough time falling asleep). Terri said that it's best to rent a car, but I'd rather not have to drive around an unfamiliar place.
Also, when would the interview day be over?

Thanks for your help!

p.s. I'm planning to visit friends in the bay area the weekend before my interview, so I'll probably take amtrak to Davis the day before my interview.

there's some weird glitch in the matrix or something, cuz i don't see this thread on the first page even though i just posted...

bump?

You probaby should rent a car. Perhaps in the Bay area and then drive to Davis. As for student hosts, there is a big list. They will mail it to you.

There's a Best Western on B Street, right downtown. Then you could just take the bus over to the med school side of campus. There's also Econo Lodge on D St. Those are the closest.

thanks!

any idea when the interview day is over? just want to make sure before i buy my plane tickets

It depends what time your interviews are and how long they last. I only had one interview but it went 2+ hours so I wasn't done until about 4:30 pm. Some people had 4 or 5 pm interviews. I'd book the flight out in the evening just to be safe and if you do get done early maybe you can stand by earlier. Good luck.

my interview is at 8:30 am, so i'm guessing i'll be done early?
the cheap southwest flights are all booked for 7 pm. the next one isn't til 9 pm, the last one before 7 is at 2:35 pm. argh.
