Hi Everyone! Congrats on the acceptances to those who have received them, and good luck everyone who's still waiting!
So here's my deal:
I applied this past cycle, 23 AA, 21 TS, 22 PAT (All sections above 20 except for Bio: 19 :/) with a 3.62 overall gpa, 3.51 science. I think sufficient EC's and fairly good LORs.
I got 2 interviews out of the 3 schools I applied to (I'm a TX res, so Baylor, Houston and SA, I interviewed at Houston and SA)
I honestly thought my interviews went pretty well, Houston more so than SA. My interviewer even gave me a hug 😀
Buuuttt December 1st came around and nada. 😳
The thing with my application is that I only applied with 2 years of undergrad. I was classified as a junior because of dual credit and AP work, and was planning on graduating a year early, and technically still can. However, on my application I had only 2 upper level electives (3000 and 4000 level at my university) because I'm cramming them all this year, 4 sci classes last semester, and 5 this semester, which would give me the credits to graduate with my BS in Bio.
My pre-dent advisor really thinks it's the lack of upper levels that kept me from acceptances, and I can pretty much see why. I mean... I applied with the coursework of a sophomore, and looking back I feel pretty lucky to have gotten interviews at all!
So background story aside, here's my dilemma:
I am so fortunate as to have a 4 years scholarship at my university, which is for a full 4 years regardless of if I have the credits to already graduate or not. I am also still under the limit for this loan forgiveness program that pretty much covers my living expenses because it doesn't take DC and AP into account.
I'm really caught between graduating this year as planned, and maybe doing some post bacc work or getting a job, in my gap year (really building those EC's) or staying one more year and adding a microbiology focus to my degree and just graduating in the traditional 4 years.
I'm not sure which option the dental schools would look more favorably on... on top of that, I'm still really hoping for a late acceptance, I sent them my updated transcript with 4 sci classes this past semester, 2 A's, 2 B's with one of the A's being in a 4000 level biochem class. I don't know if it matters much now, but I can hope. 🙄
Unfortunately, in the case of waiting for a late acceptance, the deadline to apply for graduation will have passed (it's in February), and I'm fairly sure that not graduating would impact that acceptance. So decision making must happen pronto 😕
Any advice would be awesome! I know that was long, thanks for sticking around
