Hello everyone, I am new to the site, it’s nice to meet you. I need some advice, very badly, and I was hoping someone here could help me.

I’m currently an undergraduate student interested in getting my PsyD. My GPA is about 3.4 but I struggle with test scores, and will be taking the GRE. I’ll be getting my Bachelors degree before transferring to a graduate school (I plan to stay in California, preferably Southern California.) I have many hours of internship experience in a Psychiatric Ward.

Here’s what I need help with: I’ve spent hours online looking up graduate schools and programs, but the amount of information is a little overwhelming. I’ve narrowed down my choices, but I’m having trouble narrowing it down further. I don’t know which schools/programs are the best, have a good reputation, have high placement rates, acceptance rates, etc. I haven’t been able to find good stats or personal anecdotes. I’ve looked at posts similar to this and found some good information, but I would like more specific detail on these schools. I’ve tried Google, Yahoo, and other search engines and I’m getting to the point where my brain is going to leak out of my ear…I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or advice, anything would be greatly appreciated.

In no particular order, here are the schools:

1. Argosy University

2. Alliant University (poor reputation?)

3. The Chicago School

4. California Institute of Integral Studies

5. Union Institute and University

6. John F Kennedy University

7. University of La Verne

8. Pepperdine University (Masters required for acceptance to college?)

9. Professional School of Psychology

10. Palo Alto University

Thank you!

you can find stats, cost, and internship rates for the programs on their web sites. all of those schools are going to be very expensive. if i were you, i would check on the internship rates for at least the first 2 choices...

MOD NOTE: We have threads on all of those schools on SDN. Instead of starting yet another thread about the programs, please just do a search within the clinical forum and you will find a plethora of information. Closing. -t4c

ps. You can use the link in my signature to get to the search page. From there you can limit your search to the Clinical Psychology Psy.D./Ph.D. forum.

As opposed to a thread about any of the individual programs (and I went to one of the programs on your list, BTW), I would just comment about understanding the anxiety of being out of undergraduate school and anxious about what to do with the rest of one's life.

If I had to do it over again, I would have liked to have found a way to have worked as an RA in another research lab or two before applying to a funded program in clinical psychology, basically to have taken some time to bolster my application chances more with funded programs, which I think I would have been competitive for.

It would have taken more time and lost opportunity costs, and I'm not sure I would have ended up married to the woman I married if I had done that (due to the potential geographical concerns) but then again, I wouldn't have that debt hanging over me like I do now - which is manageable, but substantial.

On the positive side, I love what I do and my career prospects continue to look bright. Anyways, there's my experience.
