Looking for advice on which DO schools I would be competitive at. cGPA 3.81 sGPA 3.88 MCAT 505. I'm a non traditional applicant, currently working as a high school chemistry teacher. I've done MD shadowing (cardiology) and have 4,000+ hours of clinical experience working in an animal hospital. GA resident, willing to move anywhere. All I really know is PCOM in Atlanta, any other suggestions? Thanks!

GPA is stacked! Great job there. MCAT definitely isn't bed. Will get you through screenings. Questions that MAY come up are why your MCAT doesn't necessarily correlate with GPA but other than that solid app! Apply to some out in CA [emoji51]

No one will ask that. You have a great app, apply anywhere you want. The biggest question will be "why not vet school?" I'm not sure that many hours in an animal hospital will give the best impression. Do you have human patient contact hours and volunteering?

I do get asked "why not vet school" a lot. I live in a very small town with only one hospital, and I was not able to actually work there, only shadow. The animal hospital was just a great opportunity to work in healthcare in any capacity. I looked into vet med a little, but it just didn't resonate with me. I personally did not feel fulfilled serving animals vs observing the physician serving people.

So yes, patient contact through shadowing, not volunteering.

You need to get some human volunteering under your belt. You can volunteer at a number of places like nursing homes, hospitals, clinics etc. As you are right now, your not convincing anyone that you are capable of being around sick/grumpy/dieing patients/people for the long haul. Your stats are great so just get some patient contact hrs.

Oh and shadowing does not count toward patient contact hrs/volunteering.
