Hello everyone. I just finished my bachelors and will be applying to medical schools and SMP's as back ups per the wise Goro.

My GPA is Sub 3.0 but the last 56 credits (2 years) of upper level sciences has been demonstrative of reinvention. I will begin studying for the MCAT in January and apply next cycle. Does anyone have any advice on which SMPs have a decent linkage? I have done some research on them and found a few I am interested in but I figured I would ask you guys your opinion. I am a Florida resident and have a solid application aside from the overall GPA but as I said I am applying as a reinvented applicant.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

So I got into EVMS and LECOM bradenton. Since you're in florida why not look at LECOM. I dont have the best UGPA and got in so give it a shot.

Lecom is actually my number one DO choice school. Mind Dm me your GPA?

I did Marshall's BMR (biomedical research) SMP that has a linkage to their medical school, Joan C Edwards School of Medicine.

This program has definitely prepared me well for medical school. It establishes the ties that allow you to apply to their affiliated medical school if you are out of state (I had zero ties to WV before the program). If you get above a 3.4 GPA in the first year, then you are guaranteed an interview. This is regardless of your MCAT score. EDITED: You now need an MCAT score (albeit pretty low) to be considered for the med school after you finish the MS

Positive: Overall, I think this program has been worth it. It has the strongest ties between students from the master's program getting accepted into the affiliated med school that I've researched with any SMPs. That's why I chose this program over other popular SMPs like Drexel, Loyola Chicago, etc.
- very strong connection to medical school (get an MCAT >500, crush the master's and there's a real good chance you'll get in)
- can choose not to send MCAT score (if you finish program >3.4 GPA)

Negative:
- it does not give you a ton of time to solely study for the MCAT [although it really helped me ace the biochem section]
- Not much pre-med advising for med school applications
- Location (at least for me). Small city on the SW edge of West Virginia

If your question is regarding admission to the program - no, it does not matter. Many of my classmates were OOS with no connections to Marshall or even WV.

Tuition is obviously more for OOS, but I figured that was well worth it for putting me on the path to med school.

As far as admission to their medical school as an OOS student in their SMP linkage, your application will be treated much differently than any other OOS applicant. It's a huge advantage towards receiving an interview here. Pretty much everyone in my SMP class who received an interview also received an acceptance.
