Hey guys,

I recently took environmental biology and received 'C' in it. It was my first online class and i really did not like it. So my college is offering the class in the summer, not online. I have a week to think about it. I was wondering if i should retake it. It is not required for dental school, just considered as a science course. My Gpa is at 3.4 right now, so should i consider retaking it. It should raise my gpa to 3.5-6 i believe, that is if i get an 'A'. I also have biochem, physiology, and physics registered for fall, which should raise my Gpa. Should i just not worry about it, since it is not a prereq for dental school. What do you guys think, your advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you should retake it! Not only it will boost your GPA and eliminate that ugly C from your transcript, but it will also show the adcoms that you have put in the extra effort to improve your GPA, and that's always a good quality in a college student.

I would say to take if only if you're 100% certain you'll get an A in it. Remember that if you get a B it'll still lower your GPA - not to say there's anything wrong with getting B's in classes, but just something to consider. Also, it will still always be on your records, it won't actually remove it. AADSAS requires that you write in every class you've ever taken and the grade you got from it, but there is a part where you can denote that this was a repeated class. And true, it does look like a plus if you retake a class you didn't do so hot in, but it won't be worth it if you don't get an A, so like I said before, only retake it if you're certain you'll get an A. Don't worry too much, either way you'll be fine. If you end up not taking it, take some other Bio class that you think you can do well in.

Not worth it, just don't mess up in other classes and you'll be fine.

at UCLA don't you need a C- or lower to retake the class?

ur GPA 3.4 is not that bad, i would enjoy the summer if i were you, take break before u start the fall class.

Thanks for the advice guys, i think i will go ahead and retake it. I have a free summer with no job, only some volunteering during the week. I don't think it should be that difficult. I am a lot more serious about grades now then i was when taking that class online. Thanks!
