I took the DAT 05/24/2010 and received the following scores:

PAT-16
G Chem-18
Bio-20
Org-20
RC-20
QR-18
TS-19
AA-19

I am definite that I need a retake in August, but I am unsure whether to put retake on my application so that they can hold my application. I hope to have everything in by the end of June, early July.

My overal GPA is a 3.98 and my Science GPA is a 4.0. I have done some shadowing and community service as well.

I believe the problem is I put unrealistic constraints on myself when it came to the amount of time I studied and did not focus on the PAT as I should have after getting 20s on Topscore Pro.

I am really trying not to be discouraged and just really hope I haven't lessened my chances of getting into dental school. I plan to apply to multiple schools however.

Any thoughts?

Looking over your scores, I think you are not in any bad shape. You could probably apply with those scores because the only section that was not great was PAT. Many schools do not put a lot of emphasis on the PAT. With a high gpa you should be able to get in with your score if you choose not to retake.

You have to take into account that your gpa will make up for the score you received on the DAT. The score you have is the national average for acceptances but with a lower gpa of ~3.6

You should try contacting the counselors of the school(s) you're most interested in applying to. Get their feedback on whether you should retake it or not because, like the post above says, those scores aren't necessarily bad especially with that GPA.
