I've been reading messages on this forum for a while now and really value everyone's opinions and i am posting for some advice or comments. Here is my situation... This is my second time applying to dental school, my one other time being for 2002. Back then, my overall gpa was 2.78, bcp 2.51, dat scores aa 19 pat 17 science 19. since then, i've kept taking full course loads of mostly upper div science classes, which also includes a 1 year post bac program. These classes have helped a lot and my gpa has risen to 3.10 overall, and 3.0 bcp. I also retook my dat's a couple of weeks ago, ending up with these scores
aa 20
pat 17
rc 17
qr 21
bio 22
gc 21
oc 19
sci 21
It is clear that my pat and reading comp scores are very low. I scored the same on my pat as before, but my reading comp score dropped by 4 points (21 the first time) I dont know what happened. I thought i did pretty good on rc cuz i finished before time was up. I was so disappointed when i saw my score. Being that my gpa is low, should i retake my dat's in three months and try to bring those scores up? I really dont want to wait another year.

dude,

relax. you are more than ok. i really think you will be accepted somewhere this year. if you look at my stats (in the stats thread), and the fact that i have gotten two interviews from good schools should give you a much better hope. heck your stats are a lot better than mine.

how many schools are you applying to?>

i think you did really good on your DAT. AA 20 (over 90%), PAT 17 (national avg, but still very good), Bio 22 (well over 90%), Sci 21 (over 90%), gc 21 (very good).
the rest of your score don't even matter as most schools rank them a 3 or 4 out of 9 when it comes to importance.

so with scores over 90% and 3.10 GPA, you got to be kidding me if you don't think you are in.

what do you mean by bell curve for DAT subjects?

i applied to 24 schools, applicant #1800's

I'm talking about the score distribution curve for DAT subtests. For example, the Weschler IQ curve starts at 100, and falls away to either side. 67% of people fall between 84 and 116, 95% between 68 and 132, and 99% beween 52 and 148.

I'm wondering what national percentile each point of scoring represents on the DAT tests.

the topic kinda strayed to bell curves.

Anyone else want to chime in about the original topic?
