hey,
Im a DO student applying to psych programs with a pretty bad step 1 comlex (barely passed) score. I got a psych clerkship PH and do have a pretty strong psych lor and great personal statement. Also have alot of research. Taking my step2 at the end of august and hope to do much better. Starting to get nervous. Just wondering how impt board scores are in those whole process. Which type of programs should i apply to? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

my two cents.

I think you should apply to whatever program you are interested in. Let the program reject you if that is what they choose to do. I am an intern now and speaking from last years application process, there is no real rhyme or reason as to how interviews are offered. You never know what will catch someone's eye about your application.

I would also encourage you to do some away electives, if it is possible, at programs you think you may be interested in applying to. It can help you decide if you really like the program as well as let them get to know you outside of your application (if you are not as confident about how you look on paper).

Just curious- What is your PS like and how do you know it's good?

hey sikegeek,
I had a few docs look at it and read it over and tell me that it was good. In it I talk about all the research I did while in school and the club that I was president of. I also mentioned how psychiatry was in my blood because my dad practiced for many years. R u in the middle of writing yours? Send me a pm if you want more info

Thanks! I wrote mine already too. I think mine is kind of similar as far as what type of stuff is in it. I just like to hear about how others are doing theirs and if they have any insight as to what makes a good one. I talked about a personal experience that helped me decide on psych. It seems like that's pretty typical.
