Advice.. took the DAT today!

Okay... sooooo....

my GPA is around a 3.85, science GPA around a 3.8.

Took the DATs today after 2-3 weeks of BS studying because I felt like I was applying REALLY late and got an 18 AA. The breakdown isn't pretty... but let's just say I got a 16 in PAT and 16 in QR... the rest of the scores are okay. The paper is downstairs and I'mm too lazy to grab it.

What do y'all think? I'm only applying to Texas schools. Is my GPA good enough to compensate for the average DAT score? Retaking is definitely not gonna happen this cycle so I don't really have a choice... I just kinda want a little bit of optimism. I thought it was an okay score until I got on here and everyone is making 90%+ on everything...

I also got a 18 aa and thought I had a pretty good chance until I got on here. I applied 3 years ago with a 16 aa and 3.3 gpa...of course I didn't get accepted, but I remember feeling really close because I had friends getting accepted to UF and NOVA with 17 & 18aa. I definitely think the playing field has become a bit more difficult. However, I think if the rest of your app is strong then you should be fine.

SDN'ers tend to have higher scores. I wouldnt let it get you down.

19 is the average nationwide for matriculated students. I am sure you are ok with that baller GPA.

Check the schools you are applying to on predents.com and if you have the AEDA guide.

Also check the schools websites to see their stats. Plus your EC's should help too if you have.

seems like your best bet at this point is UTDB in Houston, they seem to not give a hoot about academics compared to the UTHSCSA and Baylor....lol

Im in the opposite situation though, I've got a decent DAT score and embarrassing GPA. Hopefully I can get into Baylor....Is there any particular reason that you're only applying to TX schools? I made the mistake of doing that a few years ago and only got an interview from Baylor, which was a miracle in itself....so I think you should spend the extra couple of bucks to apply to a few backup schools out of state....it's really not worth the time to wait to be accepted to TX schools....albeit they're cheap for residents, the applicant pool will only get larger and more competitive. Which part of Texas are you from, by the way?

I just really want to be close to family. I was born and raised here in Texas.... I don't want to leave! lol

And I'm from the DFW area... not getting too specific there but clearly theres only 3 or 4 universities around town... and no I don't go to a private one... PSSH! haha.

Thank for the feedback y'all, I appreciate it a lot. I have a few friends at SA that got 18/19s and had similar GPAs so I'm hoping to get lucky?!

That may be true but you could not tell that by the mean gpa scores, which are virtually identical for SA/Hou and higher for Hou than Baylor.

I see many people doing weak on QR section...is it harder than the ones like on kaplan and destroyer OR people just run out of time???

I am good with math but I see many people getting low scores so just wondering :-?
