Hi!
I am having trouble deciding my AADSAS application list for schools, so I thought it would be really helpful to hear what everyone would say on Studentdoctor.net!
Here's my basic info: MA resident, oGPA around 3.5 (ish, might be lower after adding in my post-grad courseworks), and sGPA around 3.2-ish from a highly competitive school; math and econ major. DAT TS 20, AA 20, but I did screw up biology section pretty bad, and I might retake my DAT in Sept. if necessary. After graduation, I have been mostly working for performance arts, though I have been keeping up with my post-grad science course works.
Here are the schools currently on my list:
1. Tufts (dream school)
2. BU
3. NYU
4.Temple
5. Pittsburgh
6. University of Maryland
7. University of Utah
8. Indiana
9. Lake Erie
10. University of New England
11. Nova
12. Midwestern
13. Marquette

Any thoughts? I am pretty certain about my top 5 schools, as well as University of New England. But the rest are pretty much uncertain....

Many thanks!

Take Utah off your list. If I recall correctly from the ADEA guide, they did not grant any seats to out of state students last year.

Awww... I was hoping that Utah would give more oss seats, because of some other personal reasons... But I guess not... Thanks, customx!

Your GPA went down because of your post-grad courses?

Factor in your grad school classes and let us know what your oGPA and sGPA will be. 🙂

Also, what was your grad school sGPA/oGPA?

Hmmm, so you do you treat grad level classes the same way when calculating your GPA? If so, I guess my oGPA is probably 3.4 or so now... But I will give it a more exact calculation when I get home tonight...

For my PG work, I only took science classes, since I was not a science major in college. My post grad courses oGPA and sGPA are both 3.3...

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I really don't understand how most people's post grad GPA goes up since most people in the PG programs are premed, and the class average is usually around B- range... Now I feel super bad about myself....

And thank you so much for your help, Glimmer1991!

Typically, people do post-grad work to boost their GPA and prove that they can handle more difficult science classes. The idea is that grad classes should definitely raise your sGPA, or else you're wasting your time and money. However, since you were a math/econ major, I'm guessing you were taking them to get your pre-reqs in. Your situation is different, so I'm not sure how that will factor in.

In both undergrad and graduate school, I'll venture to say that most folks are on some sort of pre-healthcare track. That's pretty standard.

Yes, grad courses count the same as undergrad courses when it comes to your GPA.

What were your grades in your pre-reqs, and how bad is "pretty bad" on the bio section?

How do your ECs and shadowing hours look?

So I just did an calculation on what I think the AADSAS GPA should be calculated -- sGPA total is 3.19, and oGPA total is 3.40... The post grad classes definitely increased my sGPA (which was pretty low considering all the abstract math courses I took, plus an C on orgoII...), but not that that much...
Screwed up biology section in DAT and got only 16 for it... 🙁
EC is pretty great, done some pretty substantial volunteering work in marginalized populations (though most part of the work is not health care related), president of our school's math club. If the performing art side of me counts as as well EC, then I trained at the nation's most selective school, still actively performing, and teaches at a pre-professional school...
LOC is a committee letter with 5 individual letters attached. I am sure 3 of them are great and personalized from professors I have worked with intensely, the science one I think it's good but not certain.
Awards and research -- Was in school's Econ honor's program and graduated with honors in econ. Research includes some independent study in econ, and participated in a project with AbbVie.
Shadowed about 100 hours, mostly with general and pediatric.

Thank you so much for your help, Glimmer1991.
