Hey everyone,

I literally just got an email saying I was put on the waitlist for MSUCOM class of 2013.

Anyway, can someone give me some advice, I have been accepted to CCOM and was planning on going there, but I am from Michigan and instate tuition for MSUCOM is much cheaper that out of state tuition for CCOM.

What are the odds that I will be accepted to CCOM? They said in the email that it can be as late as early June before I get accepted. I feel that since it's so late in the application cycle that there are probably a large number of students ahead of me on the waitlist. Am I wrong in assuming this?

I already found a place to live in Downers Groove (where CCOM) and made plans to go there....but now I get this news.....

HELP please....

Thanks,

Nick

play the waiting game is my advice, and just hope that msu takes you off the waitlist. I am in the same situation with other schools and i will move back to my in state school if they call me one day before school starts

I'd say anonymously call the admissions office and ask if they expect movement in the waitlist or how often students have been admitted off the list in the past. You could also send a letter of intent to MSUCOM to try and help your chances. I'm not sure what else would help..

I've been on the waitlist at MSU since the fall. There are two waitlists -- one that comes with a guaranteed spot for the Class of 2014 if you don't get in and a regular waitlist for the Class of 2013. What I've heard, as a person on the regular Class of 2013 waitlist, is that it's possible that you could get in, but the priority goes to the other list. I don't know what the chances are per se, but you can call admissions and make an appointment to speak to an advisor. They're pretty nice and he/she may be able to give you more information.

Thanks, but how do you know what list you are on? So people on the list for the guaranteed spot for the 2014 class get pulled off the list first and then the other (i.e. the list just for 2013 class) list gets used?

Thanks again,

Nick

The way I understand it, it says in the letter if you're guaranteed a spot for 2014. Here's the MSUCOM thread. There's some discussion about both waitlists. You could ask there and someone might have more information, but what you wrote above is how I understand it to be. Also, set up an advising appointment. They're super nice and they'll answer all your questions.

You will get two emails if you are on the "Guaranteed 2014 waitlist". One email will say you are waitlisted for the class of 2013 and the other will say that they decided to give you automatic acceptance for 2014 if you do not get off the waitlist this year.

The "guaranteed" waitlist gets priority.
From what I've heard, in the past they have gotten through about 70% of the guaranteed waitlist. And none of the not guaranteed. While this may be true, the class size did increase by 100 students this year, so there's a possibility they will get through the whole guaranteed waitlist and onto the next. Either way, if you don't get in, and want to wait a year, go talk to admissions couselors, improve your app, and you are very likely to be accepted next cycle.. but that will mean reapplying.

I say go to CCOM. Stay on the waitlist @ MSUCOM and if you get off of it, then go. But if not, maybe getting out of Michigan and doing something different may end up being a good thing! You're still not very far away!
