I was wondering if anyone could give me an Idea of what the approximate acceptance averages might be for some AEGD programs.
I am especially interested in the California AEGD programs (UCLA/UOP/USC) etc.
What average dental school GPA and Board scores are they looking for to be competitive?
If anyone has any info. to share about these programs, it would be greatly appreciated!
Any info. on what these programs are like from current residents welcome too!

This would be really helpful info to know. Would be great if people who have been accepted or gotten interviews could post scores and any other info.

Bump! Responses would really be helpful. No residency websites give this type of info with stats. They just say they want letters of rec, board scores, transcripts, and a photo.

The reason is because most programs look at the individual.... what have you done. Class activities, volunteer activities, reseach. Of course good grades help, but it is only one factor.

While we are not an AEGD, we interview all who we feel are qualified. We interviewed from all parts of the class standings, based on the student.

We also try to blend our program... This year we have 5 different dental schools represented. Our interviews covered more schools.

PASS includes most of this information, but we like to see a brief CV. We like to see what happened if there are gaps in time.

The interview is very important.

Hope this helps some.

Is research really even necessary for an AEGD? That doesn't make much sense.

ram1 did not say you need to do research for an AEGD, but it looks good in your application if you've done one.

I don't understand why you are so worried about getting into an AEGD program, there are so many unfilled seats every year, if you want to get into one - you will, but it may not be your top choice (the competitive ones - they are only competitive because everyone wants to go there; for location, reputation or what not).

A representative from Lutheran medical center was at my program the other week. He said they will open 5 new AEGD programs in California alone within the next 18 months, and that's just Lutheran!

I'm not worried at all. Just tired of studying for finals and thinking about how great post-dental school will be. I am just trying to get a feel of what is necessary to get into top notch programs. So far the info has been helpful.

where can one find a listing of all the AEGD programs? besides the obvious of location, what would make one program better than another? I'm guessing the types of procedures, but this would seem to differ with each persons interests. Therefore, I guess my question is is there anything out there (besides websites, current residents, etc.) that lists all the AEGDs and is something that can give the reader a good 'feel' of what the program is like?
thanks in advance.

I will be on the same boat in 6 months or so, but I am looking into GPR programs.

There is a book, ASDA Guide to Postdoctoral Programs. It has answers to many questions, but I don't know if it provides stats of matched students. I would call the directors of the programs you are interested in, and ask them what they consider. .
