Does anyone know if the following AEGD's in NY are good programs?

Columbia University College of Dental Med (heard the GPR is no good)
Lutheran Medical Center - Metropolitan, NY

Or is it better for me just to apply to the GPRs in NY if my goal is to practice general dentistry.

Thanks

Why don't you try and visit the programs and talk with the residents. Or, at least see if you can call and talk with some of the residents. AEGDs and GPRs are typically very different from each other, and also differ from one school/location to another. You need to think about what you want from a program [outside of the need to "do an extra year"]. This is not meant to be a blanket statement, but typically AEGDs tend to be a little more clinically oriented to the type of dentistry the private practitioner will be providing. GPRs usually introduce more hospital medicine. Some programs are what I call a "hybrid"....more of a blend. That's why you should think about your goals and see what program fits your needs.

Best of luck.

VA programs upstate new york sound good. Does anybody have more information on them??

One of my classmate who visited columbia AEGD said, "DO NOT GO THERE!" I trust her judgement. I would go to the Lutheran Medical if I have to choose bewteen the two.

Lutheran has AEGD's across the country. The chairman is a pioneer in the distance learning concept, and from what I have seen, the lectures on line are pretty good. With that said, I can not comment on what type of supervision or experience you can get at the wide variety of sites where AEGD's are offered. Of course it is an opportunity to live in another part of the country.

I understand that Lutheran has different clinics all around new york city, how is one different from another? And which is a good site?
