After your accepted to a residency program, what documents do they want us to send after we are accepted, do we have to send official Part I, Part II scores? Also do they want us to have a dental license?

I guess all of that depends on the school and state. In my case, all they asked for was proof of graduation (transcript). Depending on the state, you may not need a license (or temporary license). If you want to find out about a particular state, I suggest checking out their Department of Labor website 😴 Somewhere in all of the legal nonsense, it should give you the goods on whether you need to secure a temporary license or not. Hope this helps...

Do I need to take Part IIs before residency begins?

I don't know about your school, but you won't even be able to graduate with a degree without having passed both Part I and Part II. You should definitely have Part I and II done.

Graduated from dental school (there is some leeway here in that if you're not fully finished with requirements by the time of graduation, you might have some time to finish before residency actually starts up in July.) GPRs and AEGDs do allow some people to start later if need be, but you'll have to make that time up in the end. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a specialty program who would be willing to wait for you to have everything completed.

Finally, you will need a dental license (either full licensure or a temporary one), I would send in and apply for one as quickly as you can to avoid problems down the road. I had problems with paperwork supposedly not being turned in and it took forever for mine to be processed. Directors and ther other residents will start to hate you if you can't take the call shifts you were assigned because you don't have your license or other paperwork completed.

the school I attend does not require me to take the Part I or Part II to graduate. That being said, I I will have a dental degree by the time I graduate, but I won't have my dental license, and I thought that a license is not a requirement for residency programs.

I think you can get by with just a temporary license unless the program specifically states that you need a full license to practice. That being said, I do believe that one of the requirements to even get a temporary license is passing both Part I and II.

Bottom line: Take and pass both sections before the start of residency. I've heard of no one being able to do any sort of residency without having first passed both sections of the national boards.

Are you at a foreign school? What US school doesn't require you to pass the NBDE before graduation?

Also, I don't know of a single program that doesn't require the NBDE to be passed in order for you to begin the program.
