What are the options for EM docs if lets say they get sick or "burnt out" of doing shift work... Are there subspecialties of EM, can they go into private practice? what are your options?

There are lots of things you can do, from teaching and administration to consulting work. If you are finding yourself burning out, try to find some side work that really engages you and cut down on the EM work for awhile. EM attracted you for some reason. Maybe by giving yourself a change of pace for awhile you'll find you don't want to leave EM entirely.

What about a walk-in clinic or FP? Obviously nto stress-free options, but different kind of stress.

I wonder if you could do Urgent Care? I would be interested in that in the latter years.

Yes, you could certainly do Urgent Care; in many hospitals, the ED physician supervises and/or signs off on many of the cases worked up by a PA or nurse practitioner.
