For the admissions office, the post-interview process involves discussing the day's standout candidates and the balance of the class. Who will be an asset to their class's community? How will the candidates they spoke to interact with each other if admitted?
The waiting is the hardest part, but if you interviewed in the fall and hear crickets all winter, don't panic. Some schools conduct every interview, then release all their decisions on the same day. (That's something you can ask the admissions office about, so as not to torture yourself.) Schools following the AMCAS standard start extending offers in mid-October but could roll out fleets of acceptances every few weeks and send new offers as accepted applicants pare down their school choices.
If you were waitlisted by a school, you might not know if you got in until June. And we know of one waitlisted student who was accepted to a program four days before classes started in August.
