Hi,
I am a community college student who is interested in becoming a physician. I will be transferring to a four-year institution in the coming semesters.
So, currently my first preference would obviously be to get into an American medical university (MD or DO). My second back up would be to get into an accredited Caribbean school. My last hope would be Aga Khan University. What do you guys think of my plan. I'm currently in my first year and will take all of my med school prereqs at the four year university once I transfer.
I also work at two doctors offices. One of the doctors I work for is and Interal medicine doctor who graduated from King Edward. The other one is a Psychiatrist who went to Allama Iqbal Medical college. I've also occasionally worked for another doctor who went to Sindh Medical college. I've asked for their input on my plan and they've said that its a good plan. They also said that Aga Khan is the best institution in Pakistan and that it is widely recognized in the US by residency board people. Another thing is would it be difficult to get residency in US even if I went to Aga Khan or a Caribbean school. I know it's getting harder to get residency, however I know a couple of people who are foreign medical grads who have gotten really good residency's and are now getting job offers. I'm kind of confused about how the whole residency matching program works. If someone could give me some input on my plan and provide some good info about med schools, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
