So I am having the same problem as everyone else it seems. I have been accepted to Howard, Temple and aadsas now says offer made for Minnesota. I went from 1 offer on tuesday to 3 now. I am not sure how to choose. I am pretty much narrowed to Temple or Minnesota. Temple is cheaper, with more clinical exposure I think. Minnesota costs mucho dinero, very nice facilities, research, specialization opportunities and my brother lives there. Any opinions are welcomed. I guess I have a few more days to decide.

Though decision you got there.
Personally I would pick Minnesota, other than the fact they have excellent facilities, if a member of your family lives nearby, thats always a plus. It also depends on what kind of program you are looking for, clinic or research base. Both are really good programs, no matter which school you pick, I'm sure you're going to be happy.

I heard there are a lot of lakes in Minnesota, too (like 10,000 or something). You can't play hockey on the Schuylkill, either.

Nomar,
why don't you visit them again?

Congratulations! There are many on SDN who'd love to have this "problem".

I am with Fredrico. Minnesota has a lot to offer and the staff seems to really care about the students.

Good luck in your decision.

Minnesota hands down.

I would go with Minnesota. Nothing beats 'Minnesota nice'.

So far the score is 4-0 Minnesotta, looks like an easy game boys hehe

haha, unless you don't know about the 60k yearly tuition for out-of-staters

Are you kidding me? Temple all the way then, that's more than tuition at any of the most expensive private schools in the nation!

You'd be crazy to pay that, crazy I tell you!

That's what I was thinking armorshell. Im considering applying for the public health scholarship. edit, just noticed it is 60k total, living included. so its about the same as temple.....not sure how i overlooked that. edit again. 2nd yr it is 80k, 3rd and 4th are 90k.

Ok You made me change my opinion hahahaha
thats too much money

Why not flip a coin?!

Still way too much money. What scholarship are you talking about? The NHSC?

By the way I looked at my numbers, at that rate Minnesota will cost you more than Tufts or Penn, is roughly equal to the cost of USC and is only less than NYU. By the time you graduate you would have $380,000 in debt due to interest on the loans. I thought state schools were supposed to be cheaper?

How do you calculate the total amount of money including interest on the loans? Do you use the specific program or just use your calculation? Thanks.

Try to go with the cheapest program, and then take it from there. Why would you want to burden yourself with extra student loans when another school gives you a cheaper deal. At the end of the day all three schools will essentially give you the same education.

It is a great problem to have though.

Congratulations on your success🙂

Hey Nomar I see you like the Trailer Park Boys, I love that show big fan. I have all the dvds and the movie. It is by far canadas best, too bad it ended last year.

I use my own calculation which technically underestimates the total, but by a very small amount. The actual number depends on how your loan company compounds the interest.

Is it difficult to establish yourself as a Minnesota resident so you could get the in-state tuition rate after your first year? You should ask the school how that works, because that would dramatically decrease your tuition.

Yes, I am going to talk to them about getting residency which would then make my decision easier. Nikki Cook seemed to think that you cannot obtain it while in school but she isn't positive.

As for Trailer Park Boys, very funny show. I have the first 4 seasons, xmas special and the movie. Haven't seen anything beyond season 4 and I think it is high time I did.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it would be near impossible to get residency if you're an INTERNATIONAL student.

I still have no idea how D-Schools even have the nerve to charge more for the third and fourth years when all you do is make money for the clinic. I'm not saying it should be free,...but more?? Insane!

Just my 2 cents....

I may be international but I hold citizenship in the US and Canada so I am just an out-of-stater.

OK, me too.
Did you apply as a Canadian, or did you claim some sort of state residency?

He should go to Temple. Since they force the students to handle payment, the students should charge more for being "better." Maybe you can pay for your tuition and a bit of something at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Let me clarify, I applied as an american living in canada.
