🙁

Hey guys, just took the DATs today, here are the scores:

PAT: 15 (have no clue what happened!!)
RC: 16 (have no clue of what happened!!)
QR: 17
BIO: 21
OC: 20
GC: 20
AA: 19
TS: 20
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mannn my pat and rc scores ruined it!! I have no idea what happened.. i was doing well on the practice exams, and for PAT i thought it was easier on the real thing than practice exams....mannnnnn!

Should I retake? I dont know what to do because of these two scores.
My Science GPA is 3.78, and Cum: 3.7.

What should I do? If I retake in nov, would that be to late? Appz are already sent to the schools, and few schools mailed me wanting DAT scores... So help me out guys...

Thanks in advance.

by the way.. happy indian independence day! (and mine too from studying i guess...maybe...)

I would too...what did you study for bio? were the bio qs more like destroyer, kaplan or other stuff?

a lot of schools have minimums that you have to have in all the sections and it is usually around 16 or 17 so i would think that you should for sure retake

sorry i agree with the rest, a retake

yea. you won't make some cut-offs unfortunately.

Well, don't lose all hope. You have 3 months to re-take, so apply with these scores and see what happens. I mean worst that will happen is they'll tell you what you already know. Some schools really stress the sciences more than anything else. I also spoke to many schools and it's pretty much unanimous that DAT scores are lower this cycle than last cycle. RC and QR have been hurting plenty of applicants. Give it a shot and see what happens. Good luck!

I would retake but only if you don't get in this year. I know people that have interviews with like 13's and 14's in some sections, including the RC portion of the exam. My friend just got an interview with ASOD and his GPA/sGPA is lower then yours and he has a 17 AA on the DAT. I'm sure you'll get some interviews, especially if you have residency somewhere. I saw some people that have interviews with NOVA with a 16 of RC too so don't give up. If you did retake it, I would start studying tentatively now for next year because you will be super late (if not already) for adcoms if you studied and then retook this year. Anywho, good luck and don't give up hope, you have a great TS so you should definetly feel good about that.

Straight forward questions, except a few odd ones, but they are not that bad if you have background in the sciences because you can eliminate..... if i havnt of studied destroyer, and this goes for bio, gchem and ochem, i seriously would have missed some questions.. destroyer helped me a lot... This is what i used for the sciences:

Bio: Achiever, Campbell (only to look up information that I came across in the other sources listed here) Destroyer, Kaplan, and Topscore

Gchem: Achiever, Destroyer, Kaplan, and Topscore

Ochem: Achiever, Destroyer, Kaplan, and Topscore

Like most people have said in this forum, Gchem was mostly conceptual.
Ochem was straight forward as well... again destroyer...... I only had 20 mins to do this section...sucked because i had about 4 marked....

To everyone else... thanks for the replies and input... tomorrow I am going to call up the schools that I've applied to and talk to them about my scores.

Ah this reallly sucks.... To all you guys that have done well on the DATS overall, I give you props!! Good job!

Not all schools have cutoffs, so with your high GPA I think you should still be alrite if you applied lots.

I applied to 13, and many were top notch schools.. what was i thinking

UCLA, UCSF, UOP, LOMA LINDA, USC, BOSTON, HARVARD (FOR LAUGHS), SUNY, CASE, FLORIDA, ARIZONA, UNLV AND MEHARRY.

I HOPE ATLEAST ONE OF THESE WILL GIVE ME A SHOT...

Just based on your GPA and DAT...

UCLA - Possible, but difficult
UCSF - Better odds than UCLA
UOP - Favors high DAT...
LLU - I have no idea how SDA fairs
USC - Have a chance
Boston - Have a chance
Harvard - Most likely no
SUNY - Possible, but difficult
Case - I have no idea whats going on with case, my friend got rejected last year with 3.5 and 24/24
UF - Favors residents
ASDOH - Have a chance
UNLV - Favors high DAT
Meharry - Favors UDM

based on the stats on the official guide to dental school...and assuming that there are no cutoffs...

I called a lot of the schools that I am applying to and the only ones that institute a cut off are University of Pittsburgh and apparently Case and NYU. I think your grades are really good and your overally score is pretty good too. When I talked to admissions reps they really emphasized that they look at the "total package" so a few of your scores are low, no one is perfect. Just apply and see what happens, I am sure you will be surprised to find out that you will get some interviews.

Good luck and don't be stressed out, at least you completed the DAT, just focus on getting your apps in as soon as possible!
