I know that they've begun giving out interview dates. A friend of mine e-submitted July 8th and had his letters of rec turned in the end of August. He has an interview on Sept. 30th. He had an AA 17 and a pretty low PAT score. Not sure what his GPA is though. I think it's around a 3.4 or 3.5.

I called Ms. Edwards this week and she's been on vacation so she's just now getting around to opening a lot of the mail. I mailed in my secondary last Monday but I haven't heard anything else from them.

I see you interviewed at both UF and UAB, any big differences between the two as far as how the day went?

UF is looking for how sincere people are at giving back to the community (e.g. volunteering in free health fairs), whereas UAB is looking for people who are most likely to score really high on boards. UAB will drill weaknesses (e.g. I will be a year out of college by the time I start dental school), whereas UF probably won't.

UAB dental students seem to get a lot more clinical experience than UF students. Some UAB students achieve as much as double the clinical requirements. UAB is in a lot better location (large population) to get a broader clinical experience.

UF seems to put heavy focus on giving back to the community, and 80% of their patients are from the indigent population of Florida. UF also puts emphasis on outreach by having volunteer mission trips to Latin America. The clinical experience at UF seems decent, and there wasn't a single dropout in their most recent graduating class. UF's performance on the boards is probably not as high as UABs, because UF doesn't give out their boards rankings, whereas UAB proudly states them.

I believe the sim labs of UF and UAB are about equally new. The most state-of-the-art sim lab from what I've heard is the one at NOVA.
