Pros:
  • Clinical experience
  • They seem to push their simulation center as a great resource
  • Preclinical is Honors, Pass, Fail
  • Clinical is Excellent with honors, excellent, marginal, and unsatisfactory (more room to differentiate from other applicants?)
  • The student body seemed nice and like they knew each other
  • Serves a large population and has an urban feel to the school
  • The hospital is right there and a Level 1 trauma center for a large region
  • All NBME exams
Cons:
  • Preclinical is remote with the exception of anatomy and practical skills
  • Older campus
  • I've heard the administration can be hard to get help from
  • Research seems a little harder to get than at LCOM

LCOM (VT campus)
Pros:
  • Active learning classroom style
  • Seems to have more resources for research
  • P/F preclinical
  • Most exams are in-house, with some NBME
  • Seems to push a collaborative curriculum
  • Had a great interview experience, and seems like admin is involved in the life of students
Cons:
  • Seems pretty rural
  • Further away from home (both are a drive though)

It appears that they both match relatively similarly, but I would appreciate any insight on how they perform with residency placement.

I'd go with LCOM tbh but would have to know the cost of both before making a final decision.

Vermont 100%. Burlington is super pretty, it's more suburban than rural. It's honestly one of the nicest quaint cities to be in, about 100k people reside in the immediate area and they have a pretty bustling downtown strip. As somebody who interacts with UVM students often they all seem to be very happy and like their school. Good culture, and even though the hospital is small compared to urban, their programs like to match UVM students and it's really pretty and right across the street from campus. Can't go wrong with UVM.

Can't speak to Albany but the graded preclin is a big no for me.
