Hello,

I've been able to find a lot of posts on AECOM vs. Mt. Sinai on MD forums, but wasn't able to find that much information or opinions on these two great schools for MD/PhD programs. They both are obviously wonderful programs, and I've been looking through their websites a lot, but I was just wondering if anyone would be able to share some of their own experiences / opinions on these schools.

For example, I know that AECOM has MSTP-specific courses- this sounds great, but how do the current and past students feel about this? Research opportunities (the recently formed Clinical Investigation Ph.D program)?

Thanks!

I'm just applying now, but to me the schools are very similar in terms of academics and research. For me the biggest difference was location (Bronx for Einstein vs UES/Spanish Harlem for Sinai.)

Sinai has been aggressively recruiting some top cancer faculty from other NYC schools (and so may be on the up-and-up).

A few years ago AECOM made an MSTP video with some male students dressed as pimps throwing money around with dancing prositutes (dressed up women from their MSTP/med school) swearing/rapping about squandering NIH money-- a video that is sadly no longer available online. This was a strong negative image for the program, but I think that negative influence on the school is gone.

Anyways, they are both respectable programs. Sinai is in a better location in the city.

It's best to make a decision after seeing the programs and talking to students/faculty in person. Online suggestions shouldn't impact your decision a whole lot.
