The AMCAS application says to enter information exactly as they appear on our transcripts--so what if the course name is in all caps? Do we go against normal formatting and also put the course name in ALL CAPS on the AMCAS application?

EX: ENGL2327 AMERICAN LIT

Should we put "American Lit" instead of "AMERICAN LIT" to reflect proper formatting?

Dude, you need to relax. I think you are over-worried.

I personally don't think AMCAS is really going to care whether you spell them with all caps or not.

It doesn't matter. When AMCAS reviews apps before sending them out, they fix any minor formatting problems. Whichever way is right, thats the way your app will be when the schools get it.

ACTUALLY, IN THE AMCAS GUIDE-LINES, IT HIGHLY RECOMMENDS USING ONLY NORMAL WRITING STYLE, AS USING ALL CAPS CAN DETRACT FROM THE 'AESTHETIC' BEAUTY OF YOUR APPLICATION.

BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR APPLICATION PROCESSING! 👍 :luck:

I agree.

On the other hand...an anal retentive person will put them in all caps to comply with the AMCAS instructions. Are you that guy? Don't be that guy.

I had the same situation, and I used all caps in the transcript section. I literally copied and pasted from my computer transcript to the AMCAS form. They didn't change anything when they processed it, so I'm assuming it's okay. And BTW, I know people are giving you a hard time about this, but as someone who stresses out over everything, I feel your pain! 😀

They will not fix case-sensitive errors that an applicant may have made.

So, if your entire essay is in caps, it stays all caps. If all of your Post-Sec exp are in caps they stay in caps. This is all in the AMCAS help page. 👍

They do however, makesure to make a mockery of your class inputs from the transcripts they receive, subsequently putting red-Xs next to all of your classes even though you didn't deserve it. 😡 (Happened to me last year...)

So you used ALL CAPS and they put red X's by all of them?

just write it down exactly as its on your transcripts. i see no reason not to. if its all caps, its all caps.

Thanks girl--I am that guy too! Obviously using normal formatting in the PS and post-secondary stuff is important, but I am going to copy the stuff onto AMCAS exactly as they appear on my transcripts, per their instructions.

Thanks Indy. (I am also doing this because I am lazy, and I can just copy and paste from the TMDSAS app 👍 )

No, I entered the class year Frosh, Soph, Junior... etc. according to my own credit-units calculation including AP credits, and they said, OH NO!!!

That doesn't count. So they changed all my Soph to Frosh, my Junior to Soph and half my Senior to Junior, with Red-X's next to them all.

😡 AMCAS +pissed+ 😡

I was going to do that too! I guess I'll just go by the structure of my transcripts as opposed to my own class calculations including AP and transfer credits (they shouldn't have that hours breakdown in the instruction book...)

I think this settles it.

For those who have been accepted into med schools. DID YOU INPUT COURSES ALL CAPS OR NOT??? :scared:

Yes, CAPS for short name (e.g., BIO101) and regular lettering for the course description (e.g., General Biology I). It's really not that deep. As someone said, just be consistent (CAPS or not) and get your application completed and in.
