I think a fair thing to ask would be why this school.

BS questions like "Besides the info in AMCAS, what makes you want to be a doctor" can blow ... up.

Maybe.... but I think that such a question can generally be re-worded: "Can you find our institutions online Statement of Philosophy and write some BS about it?"

Not true, it helps narrow down the people you interview. I say ask it in two places if the school wants. It is a super easy question to have as a secondary and shows that you have reasons to attend that school.

I'm pretty sure I was asked plenty of secondary questions in my interviews. That doesn't mean that the person offering you the interview will be the same person who interviews you though. I think you should always talk about why you're enthusiastic about that school regardless of if they specifically ask you that question.

I also think it's very easy to tell between BS about why you want to go somewhere versus sincere enthusiasm about their educational philosophy, opportunities, etc.

I've about had it with variations of "why our school." It's so unbelievably arrogant. Diversity essays can burn in hell, too.

Yeah except they're all identical. We aim to create clinicians and physician scientists that serve the poor. We look for moral integrity, leadership, blah blah blah. We have x research labs covering (generic range of research topics.) We have a free clinic. Here are our student leadership organizations that every other school has.
