ARen't you the one that's shooting for derm? Hey if you are so bogged down, let up a little bit, med school aint' that hard to do well, it's only tough to do exceptional. Let up a bit and you will have a life, otherwise stop complaining and suck it up.

Ocean-I'm sensing that you are paying out-of-state tuition...can't you get an extra loan to buy a laptop? Our school gives us a one-time additional loan to cover the price of a computer (which I am typing on right now-effectively procrastinating from those very classes you are bemoaning...)

I have a complaint-can you BELIEVE that our school is making us take both a microbiology and an endocrinology test this monday?? Does that seem like its over the top or is it just me?

Honestly, the class I am worried about is EPI-because they only give us one test with 30 questions-pretty easy to fail. Also they aren't recording the lectures online and of course I have missed them all because of being in the deepest stage of sleep at that time and all...

hang in there...only a few more months and then the real fun kicks in w/ rotations, still some suck but some are really fun like peds and psych...although you do still have to get past step 1.

as far as money goes...you've probably already taken out some in loans so a bit more shouldn't make that much of a difference in the end. do something nice for yourself every once in a while. like i've gone on a vacation, bought a new mountain bike.

hey there, I hear you and I feel the same way, not so much about the money b/c when you have no time it doens't mater if you have money or not b/c you can't find the time to go anywhere. But I'm totally overwhelmed with all this work and see no end in sight. 🙁

Me be poor too. And I hate pharm, and yet! still more to come. It's like some weird, scary nightmare where you think you are learning these lists of meaningless pieces of information and then, the test and you're like: wait, is that one of the drugs I studied? and you don't even recognize the material in the question. 🙁

Why do they throw everything about an organ system at you and then say ok, now you have one week to learn everything about the GI track. Is that even possible?

I'm feeling a bit depressed myself. The next six months seem pretty overwhelming. I've started off the year really well, but I feel burnt out already. I have an exam block next week, then four more exams three weeks later. By then it'll be March and boards will be looming overhead.

Anyone else want to say screw medicine and run away to Fiji. 🙂

Don't worry. Your Derm residency is right around the corner!!!!

HAHAHHAAHA

Hi guys,

thanks for the support... I feel much better today, I decided finally to go out last night.... I was soooo depressed that I decided just to do it! go out and have fun because I was inefficient yesterday. I went to that AMA party downtown chicago and met tons of other med students.... some of the school's represented were: NW, Loyola, UIC, UC, RFUMS-CMS, even Midwestern (a DO school) & Southern Illinois.... it was sooo much fun! 4 free drinks per person + tour of AMA + music + free food etc etc.... so yeah it was pretty cool......

Today I am studying b/c I feel I can so no regrets about going out before 7 huge exams 😱 😱 😱

at least you dont have a repro exam the day after superbowl! 👎

yeah, second year of med school is like boyscouts on a camping trip - intense. i'm just trying to make it to spring break 🙂. pretty soon finals will be over though and we'll have fewer obligations while studing for boards, then boards will be over and there'll be a little bit of time off before the madness of third year. hey - it's not much but it's something to hold on to!

We had an exam today on 4 subjects: Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology and Pathology

It was not fun. And it was each of the 4 classes' midterm covering 50% of course material. 👎

Ouch. OK-maybe I shouldn't complain. But the problem was I got used to a nice test schedule last semester-we had one every monday. Then they changed it on us this semester.

I don't take pharmacology until next semester-and then we take it in a 6 week course. Not looking forward to it. 🙁

Ours is also 6 weeks - so we had our midterm today (3 weeks into the semester). Our schedule was also much easier and spread out last semester but I guess they use first semester to warm you up 😕 or as some like to put it, apply the KY Jelly. Unfortunately they did not apply enough for today's exam.

😡

i'm jumping on the bandwagon.. studying sucks, no money sucks.. i feel like I'm in boot camp. Up at 6am, sleep at 12:30am.. nothing but school and studying in between (ok, maybe the occasional potty break or workout)

i want money to go to the beach
I want to pretend for one day that I am wealthy... you know, drink expensive wine and laugh like rich people do 😉

why is histo, physio and biochem soooooo boring?!

You only sleep 6 hours per day. YOu study way too much. Did you consider not going to class, you would have a lot lot more time on your hands, and you'll feel better, rested and full of energy. Try it some time. Later.

let me ammend what my brother in crime Dr. Saib has stated.

2nd trimester of 2nd year is like Rocky training in every movie for his big fight against who ever he is fighting ATM.

yeah thats ll i got.

Jumping on the wagon as well...not the 12 step wagon but the going insane quazi should i keep reading don't we have PDAs anyway type of wagon...it's interesting to think that we're memorizing all of this material that will easily or not so easily be forgotten when we'll have our PDAs holstered at the ready for the 50 differentials for haemoptysis or a list of myelodysplastic disorders. I've got some big big exams a couple of weeks away...should be an enjoyable 3 weeks of daily exams covering the first 2 years of med. But after that it will be blue sky days (for 10 days) until the storms of ward rotations begin with sleepless nights, stale coffee, and wrinkled shirts. Hope everyone who is studying too much is finding some interesting ways to cope? My coping strategy...cold nude swims in the irish sea

I am also dragging my lifeless, shell of a body onto the bandwagon.

Humans weren't meant to live like this.

yup...the realities of being a med student...now i actually have to worry about passing classes

it's real nice to know i'm note theoinly one out there. Sitting here with the tea (i'm trying to put off the stale coffee as much as I can), transcribing a histology lecture. Oh the numerous joys of being a first year med student... Where do I start?

Well I would skip class if I wasn't one of those med students that was like "WTF" everytime a new subject was brought up. I feel surrounded by people who just seem to "get" everything and just need to "commit it to memory", whereas I'm like confused by topics, so if I read them at home I'm a little confused and need clarification.

I would love to not go to class, I am burning myself out. Seriously... this entire week I slept on average 5.5 hours a night...

I'd give anything to not feel like the dumbest person in my class for a change!

You guys don't have online lectures? Bummer.

When I get a bad teacher-(or bad course pack which is seriously 80% of the time at my school), I learn from the book, but I always watch the online lectures as well, to make sure I don't miss anything. Some of the lectures are more useful than others. I watch some of theam at double speed. Watching lectures at home is useful, because I am also one of those people that is also like WTF all the time, and I can pause them and go look up things in the book that confused me. Plus I can sleep in, and study late-when its quiet and there aren't distractions (except for SDN 😳 ).
