i made it into UHS
had a 3.4 cum gpa, and 3.4 science gpa. - electrical engineering major. and a 21 mcat ( i took it once, and it was before most of my required chem and bio classes were taken - i do not recommend doing the same.. i have taken pure iq and analytical tests scoring in the genius range, but the mcat is about knowledge)
i actually live about 20 mins from uhs, and been here all my life. i knew a past instructor that actually taught at uhs (an md surgeon) and an AOA state pres that graduated from uhs (do family prac). both really great guys, and from talking with the interviewers, both wrote really great rec's. I also got a few lor;s from past bio teachers that i did a markedly good job in that class, and hopefully was remembered by the professor. i was actually waiting for these lors to come in and figured the profs didnt send them in yet. some ppl said to just wait, other said to ask them how the process was coming. so i decided to send them all really nice thank you cards for writing the lors for me. soon there after they were all in.
i had TONS of ec's everything from scholar bowl and mensa qualifications to wrestling and martial arts and archery, to graduation with honors and honors in tons of classes and honor society leadership positions like electrical engineering honor society, student council, etc... started computer business on the side constructing high end business computers and servers and got some good shadowing time in while working as an engineer.
i also knew a ton about osteopathy. i made it to the interviewing session and they quizzed us on various history parts, i knew all the answers the like the back of my hand, and seemed like i was the only one too...
i had invites to kcom and dmu, but with uhs so close, and having visited uhs REPEATEDLY i loved the place and decided to come. i also made it very clear in my interview that uhs was my first choice.
for the interview i bought a new suit and went in that just for the hope that it might give me a little more confidence. i dressed well, but not showy. i might add, that for uhs at least, they did everything on schedule, you would see them checking the clock or watch every so often to make sure they were on time for the days activities. point being - dont be late, they will notice.
as far as timeline, dmu is FAST everything was online. kcom was second fast, and uhs a close third. (got secondaries from all within about 2 weeks of submitting) i interviewed at uhs in a few weeks after that, and was accepted a few weeks after interviewing.
as far as your upward trend or *academic maturing*, im sure they all look at that positively. but basically, if you get an interview, they are no longer really looking at just scores, but rather mostly you as a person.
greatest advice i can say, BE nervous because it keeps you thinking and trying hard. also, pick out just a few schools and know a LOT about them. try to stay in contact with them, constantly asking about the status of your application etc. find out what they are looking for, dont be afraid to ask questions.
gl with your progress.
