Isn't there an "Information for Prospective Students" link on UF's website? You might try and look because most school websites have one. If so, you should be able to find statistics by year on their average admitted DAT scores, GPA's, undergrad institutions attended, majors, etc.

Go to www.predents.com, select UF from the list, and check the stats of people who have been accepted to that school.

UF's a great school, good choice! Are you a FL resident? What is your undergrad school? I believe that UF's class is usually around 83 people and of those, approximately 70 will be Florida residents (so if you're a FL resident your chances are MUCH higher). From my rather limited experience, the school doesn't seem to be all about a number thing - I believe they even mentioned that in the interview. I know that if you go to UF or FSU for undergrad, there are many opportunities to shadow and/or assist current UF dental students and the best thing to do is talk to them. I did all of my observation hours as an assistant to UF students and I got a good feel for the type of people they accept and whether that school could be a good fit for me. It's great that you are starting to think of dental school, but don't go into it thinking you have to have such and such GPA, DAT, shadowing hours, extra curricular activities, etc. Do the best you possibly can in classes, and involve yourself in activities YOU are interested in (I probably was asked in interviews more about things I had done outside the realm of dentistry). And the biggest and most humbling lesson that I've learned from this whole experience is that no school is a sure thing. There are a lots of schools that I applied to and paid my application fee and have never heard a thing since then. You'll learn that you may have your heart set on a certain school but during interviews you may not even like the school and another will become your favorite. Just enjoy undergrad as much as you possibly can and good luck! 🙂 If you have more specific questions just PM me.

Wow thank you so much for your response! A lot of the others didn't really help but you did a lot and I just want to start off by saying thank you! I do reside in Florida and I attend the College Academy at Broward College which is basically a program for high school juniors and we receive our Associates Degree at the same time we receive our high school diplomas. So all in all when I graduate high school this June I will also receive my Associates Degree and I will transfer to Florida State University or Florida Atlantic University (or possibly University of South Florida). I am just so nervous because next year I will be a Junior in college and will be applying to dental schools at 19! UF is definitely a top choice because it's a great school and I want to stay away from private dental schools (like Nova) and out of state universities. But I will definitely try my hardest in undergrad, being in this program kinda messed me up because when I started at 17 I didn't really know what I wanted to do and got subpar grades and a C in my chem class :scared: and an A in the lab! I always knew dentistry was an option but was kinda scared but now it hit me that I am about to go in the real world and dentistry just fits as a great career choice to me (I spoke to many dentists which helped) I am taking Chem II and Bio and I am going to work my hardest at getting A's because I know I can. I think with Chem I had no motivation and slacked off and now I have to suffer with that grade on my transcripts. But thank you so much and I will definitely work my butt off and get involved as you said and congratulations on yor acceptance to UF!!!! I hope you have an awesome time there! 😀

Hello,

It is interesting that you also go to Broward College. I just graduated with my A.A. but need to take a few other classes as a non degree seeking student to fulfill my prerequisites for a junior level transfer student.

Get involved in activities. I started the pre-dental society at Broward College and am currently the vice president. We have alot of activities planned for the this coming semester including dental related workshops with Nova, impressions workshops, injection workshops, dental school tours, shadowing opportunities, teeth waxing workshops, student government activities to gain community service hours and plenty of other activities.

I also applied to UF, USF, FS, and Nova and have been accepted to Nova and USF for a junior level transfer. I am hoping to get accepted to UF and FSU but they have yet to officially accept me.

Oh and to answer your first question visit predents.com. It will give you all the information you need. University of Florida should also have that information on their website but it is usually takes some time to find it.

Goood luck with everything and who knows... I may already know you. 🙂
