i have only one quoter left in calstate post bac program.
i currently have 4.0 GPA, and probably end up 4.0 at the end of post bac.
my undergrad sGPA was 2.9 (terrible...right?), and overall 3.2, and have a history of rejection twice in a row.

do you guys think that this post bac really does help for this coming cycle?
i feel hopeless all of sudden because i heard that post bac GPA does not pull up GPA a lot.

my first choice is any schools in la, thou, can you guys also help me which schools would be in a safe range for me?

are you referring to applying for this current cycle with that GPA or next year's cycle? If you're referring to this current cycle and you still haven't heard anything from any schools, it might be too late as most spots have already been filled. I had similar undergrad gpa and similar post-bacc gpa and similarly had 2 rejection cycles and I was able to gain acceptance into dental school so no, don't feel hopeless about the situation. If you're applying next cycle, you've done all you can; apply super early and before the application cycle starts, set up meetings with the schools you're interested in and show them your interest and get their feedback on what you can do to improve your application. Hope that helps. Best of luck 🙂

For UCLA, it may be a tad bit more difficult as the average matriculating GPA is about a 3.7. Not impossible to get in as you have a great postbac GPA, but it's going to be a bit more difficult. Loma Linda and Western may be your best bet.

In order for that 4.0 post-bacc to mean something, you have to ask yourself: Are you doing a formal post-bacc, or just taking random courses post-graduation? Are you taking a full load of new, upper year BCP courses? How many credits are you taking? What will your new cGPA and sGPA be after your 4.0?

thk you for all the replies.
i am taking formal post bac offered by csula.
i already took 25 credit units so far (all the upper science courses), and plan to take 12 more.
this formal post bac helps me better then?

So your going to have.... 25+12 = 37 post-bacc credits on almost perfect 4.0 run?

HELL YES thats going to improve your chances.

Hmmmm.... It'll help some, but who knows how much? To be honest, having come from the CSU track myself, 12-13 units a quarter seem like a very light load, even if they are all sciences (12 units is the lower limit to be a full time student, if I recall correctly?)

The 4.0 is isn't insignificant, but as post bac units, it's only 37 on top of your 190 or so you'll have already accumulated, which will move your GPA very little.

You have one quarter left. I suggest you put it to good use and try to impress the adcom. As for schools, if you're hellbent on staying in LA, LLU might be your best option.

the OP has 190 already? wow, thats... alot

I ASS-U-ME'd that, but it seems like a fairly reasonable educated guess. One needs a bachelor's to be in a post-bacc program, and you need about 180-190 quarter units to get one from a CSU.

for csula, the advisor telling me that above 12 credits per unit is appropriate, and i know that 4.0 gpa for one year in post bac does not pull up adcom gpa greatly. but will they see my post bac gpa kinda separately?

12 credits is appropriate if what you want to do is a formal post-bac.

My personal opinion is that, to give yourself the best chance of acceptance after a subpar undergrad career, you need to remove all doubts from the adcom that you can handle the heavy load in dental school. You need more than 12 credits/quarter to do that.

Post bac credits add to your undergrad GPA. Grad school GPA is counted separately.

Does this actually matter?
