Okay, so I finally got into medical school. I came off of UB's alternate list. I know people will blast me for gloating, but I'm not. Understand, this is the 5th year I applied to med school, my life has revolved around it -- being naive enough to only apply to my one state school for 4 years sucked and hurt me, but finally, I get a seat in the room instead of watching from the outside. I want other alternates who get in the hard way to tell their stories. And those who are waiting, keep up your chin. One day if you stick with it long enough, you won't have to check the mail every freakin day!

4 years of applying to the same school? Well that was very smart. And you gonna be a doctor? Com'n man get your act together!

Congratulations colorado!!
I wish you the best of luck!
You are definitely evidence that if you follow your dreams and persevere, those dreams will come true!!

CONGRATS!! I am so happy for you. You will make a great doc unlike jalapeno.

ah he doesn't bother me any more than the adcoms that said i wouldn't get in. if that guy gets into med school, it'll just show the whole thing is a dart board and obviously they (adcoms) aren't screening well enough. we all make mistakes, jose, as i had admitted i had, but your narrow vision limits you from getting the point -- it doesn't matter any more! if you stick with this, you can do what you want to do despite what an adcom or person of lesser intelligence may say -- present company excluded -- save you. Okay, i'll translate for you: THAT MEANS YOU. all i'm tryin to tell ya, jose, is don't tread on the dreams of others, if you were focused on yours, you'd not coat-tail on all of us who will become doctors.

Man you are not even a doctor yet and already have the condescending attitude dude. Slow down man. I think the one they felt sorry for must have been you. They figure they would let you in after half a decade of attempts. It only took once for me. So what were you saying about "all of us who will become doctors"?

okay jose, hate to do it . . . have to ignore your responses from now on . . . was hoping paying you a little attention would give you a clue and some self worth . . . was wrong. . . now you just get ignored by me like every other person you encounter in life . . . sorry bro . . . vaya con dios.

CONGRATS!!! I'm most likely going to UB next year, too! You seem like a cool person and I look forward to having you as a classmate!

P.S. - Are you going on Saturday (second-look day)?

congrats to you too, hope! i have read your posts before and was secretly jealous you could "choose" a school i was dying would "choose" me. not going to second look, first i'm in colorado, unessecary cost plus i don't need a second look. after interviewing at ub and meeting their students, i knew i'd fit right in and they were my first choice all along. again congrats and i guess i'll see ya in the not so distant future!

Congratulations colorado! Its great to see someone striving for thier dreams ond one day finally reaching them! If somone truly wants something bad enough there is nothing that that can stand between you and your goal! You are proof of this! I wish you the best in the years to come and I'm sure you will make an excellent physician someday soon! take care!

CO_1 - I'm guessing by your handle that CU was the one school you kept applying to. I know that feeling. I'm on my 2rd round applying there, stuck on the waitlist. They really seem to have it in for us, huh? Plus, I have friends who've applied 3-6 (!) times before finally branching out to other schools. Nobody wants to leave the state I guess! Contrats again, and good luck in school!

Hello all
Congrats to colorado and everyone else who got in...I am placed on the alternate list at GW...anyone else in the same predicament..
will we know only after May 15? What about MCP? Any thoughts about getting off the alternate list in these schools will be appreciated.

okay so you got me, yep i even work at cu med school, got a letter from my boss who is chief of critical care and head of pulmonary division -- think that got me in cu med? nothing will. their application process -- over interviewing for available # of positions in the class hurts ya a lot plus their interviewers are good cop/bad cop even though they deny deny deny they do that. headache. glad i'm goin elswhere. good luck i know how you feel, believe me.

CU was originally my top choice, and a "back-up" according to the US News stats on their GPA and MCATs. But they denied me without waitlist. I don't think they really know what they want. They claim they want to produce generalists, but they're pumping huge amounts of money into producing research space at Fitzsimmons. Besides, their residency placement is as much distributed among specialty positions as any research oriented school. They're turning off alot of really good applicants (people from Stanford, Princeton, etc. on my interview day) who would choose CU to save money, and accepting people with bunk stats who either suck-up to the "generalist initiative" or strike them as "non-traditional" (i.e. old). The process is totally bogus if you ask me. By the way, the professor I do research with had a son that went to UCSF and was denied by CU. Go figure!

I'll probably be seeing you in August, then...BTW, what made you apply to a NY public school? The answer for me is obvious since I'm a NY resident. Have you lived in Buffalo before?

Definitely don't let naysayers like jj get to you - you must be exceptionally well-qualified to be accepted as a non-NY resident!

Enjoy your summer!

2 things pointed me towards buffalo. 1st, my fiance is from upstate and wanted to get back closer to her family. 2, i'm not sure if i want to do rural primary care (finger lakes region i think) or oncology. UB has many clinical opportunities for students to get some hands on for primary care plus the roswell park institute has a great oncology program and opportunities if i decide to do that. UB was my 1st choice all the way (2nd choice was wayne state that also had a ton of opportunity)

not going to lie . . . must return this thread to top of web page . . . running out of strength . . . alternates please reply and good luck to all of you . . . very weak now . . . tell me stories of alternate list acceptance to keep me going . . . we'll start a practice of alternate list acceptances only docs together -- no need for out-right acceptances to apply . . . getting weaker, write me.

Hang on there colorado_1. They must not like mountain folk in the medical profession because I've been reduced to depending on alternate lists myself. Yee-haw.

Hey colorado I thought you already got in so what are you so worried about?
