Hi, I am a new member. I'm a post-bac pre-med student, I haven't yet taken the MCAT but I will in April and I'll be applying this summer. I think I am interested in DO, but I need to research it further.

What I am really interested in is a thorough and deep medical curriculum that offers some courses in alternative therapies (acupuncture, herbs, movement)

I was wondering if anyone knew of particular schools offering these types of programs, DO schools specifically but also MD programs.

I know there are ND programs, but I want the full western side of things as well as some additional training in other medicinal techniques.

Thanks!

MSUCOM has special interest groups & clubs for different things like acupuncture. There is even a prof who does acupuncture that talks to them and stuff. Probably if you attend a big school with an undergrad and grad school, there are bound to be groups for just about any interest you have.

Another option you might want to consider is to wait until you are finished with med school, and residency and then either study at an Oriental medical school(it takes 1/2 the time with an MD/DO degree abt 2 years) or try to get into an integrative medicine fellowship for MDs or DOs. These fellowships are becoming a lot more commonplace and popular. Just do a search on integrative medicine fellowships and you'll see what I mean. I personally like the fellowship in U of Arizona with Dr. Andrew Weil.

I would personally like to get into that program--but first need to get into med school....
