Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on the topic.
I’ve been a PIC at an independent pharmacy for over 5 years now. The pay is good, the employer and co-workers are great, the job security is good too. However, it does feel like I have reached the top here. I know let’s say 95% of the things I am dealing with and there is no room for improvement.
I work part-time, so I have some free time for something else for now. I have the possibility of working full time at the current job, but I want to try something new. The pay is not the major factor, as I would be fine with anything over let’s say 30/hour ( I live in LA, so less won’t really make much sense) And I do have small kids, so it can’t be something that requires you to prioritize work over family too much.
I am a foreign graduate, so I have a BS in Pharmacy instead of PharmD, so the first option would be spend the free time I have on education. I can get a MS in pharmaceutical sciences on-line. (My GPA is 3.85, and I am a good learner) However, I am not sure it would be worth it. I am not a big fan of fancy degrees just for the sake of having a degree. Would this type of a degree help with pharmaceutical industry/clinical research/pbm positions?
Or regulatory writing (there is a MS with this specification). Although for that my language might be a barrier.
Besides the regular Pharmasict duties I have a couple of years of hospice/adult care facilities consulting experience, insurance contracting/audit/appeal experience and some research assistant position (this one was in a foreign country).
The second option would be to get some sort of a industry/research position, but it has to be part-time and probably hard to find.
The third option would be getting some supplemental degree, like biostatistics/IT/public health to complement the Pharmacy degree.
Anyway, to make a long story short I am looking for alternatives to Pharmacist position, that would have a potential for growth and be a bit flexible as the family goes first. Again flexibility, growth potential and life work balance would be more important than the pay to a reasonable extend.
Thank you!
