Hello all, I am approaching graduation in 2 semesters and I have not yet taken my MCAT but am thinking of taking a year off to study. I will be finishing with a BA in Chemistry a BS in psychology and minoring in computer science..

My overall GPA is 3.5 (in my CHEM BA I HAVE 3.45GPA and Psych BS 4.055 GPA, Arts and Sciences 3.45GPA AND computer science 3.333GPA). I am Mexican-American woman so I am considered an ethnic minority which I understand may help a bit in getting into medical school but I am a bit worried with my beginning semesters having some W’s on my transcript..

I do have research experience and dental assisting experience (closest I could get to medical at the time)

Are there medical schools that I have a chance at? If so, any opinions on possible schools I should try applying for (Allopathic) or what I can do to make myself a better candidate?

Thank you for your response! I will definitely keep my eye open for that.

GPA is on the lower end, but won't cut you out immediately...really depends on your MCAT.

Make sure you have sufficient clinical experience, volunteer hours, and some shadowing hours. Research is always good, but not a necessity.

Your priorities at this point are:

1) Do well on the MCAT.
2) Get clinical experience.

You do that, and you are in the running.
