Hi everyone!

I am hoping to get your insight and opinions on how admissions offices may think in terms of my qualifications to apply to medical school, both in Ontario, abroad (Caribbean/Europe (Poland, speficially)) as well as the USA.

I have recently graduated from Brock University with my BSc Hon. in Biology. I have my Organic chem etc. too, but should probably go back and up that grade. My overall average at graduation was an 80, and major avg was 83. I know my GPA is a little low, but at least above a 3.00. I have considerable community involvement also. I am wondering if I have a shot if I work hard to annihilate the MCAT.

I know the min GPA for McMaster is 3.00, as well as some US schools. I am concerned that since I just scrape by the minimum in most schools I am interested in, that I would too be scraped by during the admissions process. I assume I will also be considered less competitive against US applicants as a Canadian student.

What do you think? I've also read forums with stats similar to mine, and people have suggested that they also apply to Western and Queens because they look at your most recent 2 year GPA. Is that true?

Overall, should I even bother at this point, or should I go back and up my GPA 1st (i.e. spend another few years in undergrad and boost my avg...ohhh the slow process. haha)

Thanks!

By comparison, your GPA is indeed low. If you score a home run on the MCAT and you have very good volunteer and clinical experience, you may be able to squeeze in. But a 3.0 GPA is a large iron ball on a long chain, I think. If you do not really blow the MCAT out of the water or do not have very good experience, plan on additional couple of years of coursework.
