Hi, I was planning to apply to Osteopathic medical schools but I am concerned about my stats. I have a 3.1 GPA and a 28 on my MCAT. I am planning to apply to Nova Southeastern COM, PCOM, NYCOM, and Touro in California. Do I have the stats to get into these schools. Or am I going to wind up on the islands?

Those stats probably put you right around the average. I think if u have other ECs, good letters, then u have a good chance. Many of the schools really want a DO letter. If u have that it will strengthen u even more.

Oh...ur GPA may be a bit low, but ur MCAT is a bit higher. So overall around average I'd say. Just get those other intangibles (letters from DO, etc.)

If you apply to enough AACOMAS schools, you will get in somewhere. Don't limit your applications, however.

If you apply to all 120+ MD schools your bound to get into one of those as well. There is a thing as an atypical student even at UPENN and YALE. Stats look fine. GPA on low side but get a solid DO letter. Not one from some Family doc in BFE though. The state you live in may play a factor as well.

Yeah I agree that if you applied to lots of DO schools you'd get into one. Great MCAT. Good luck!

I'm sure you stand a great chance. Remember to focus on the other areas that will strengthen you as an applicant - your letters of recommendation, etc. You may want to check out medschoolstats.com to see what your numbers really fit in for each school. You may even find there were some schools you are closer numbers-wise than you thought.

Good luck!
